I haven't done New Year's resolutions for a long time, as I favor going into the new calendar year with intentions.

My number one intention for 2026 is to get healthier. That starts with figuring out what is going on with the muscles in my legs, so that I'll be able to resume long walks which will lead to weight loss and better mental health. I'd like to drop about 30 pounds, but again the intention is good health and I'm only using a number because I know how good I'll feel at that weight

My second intention is to grow a cutting garden in my deck pots this year. I'm going to do dahlias, sweet peas, snap dragons and something else... all from seed again. When I was living in the house, going out to the garden in the morning to cut flowers was one of my biggest delights and I'm looking forward to having that again, even in just a little way.

And then I'll have the 13th wish from my Solstice ritual to work on... I'll be opening that up at midnight.

I had a good session with my counselor yesterday. She's found a book about the connection of good nutrition and mental health as well as physical health. It has a three day protein experiment that lays out when to eat protein as well as how much - at the end of the three days you evaluate how much better you feel. I've ordered the book and it'll arrive Sunday, so I'll have time to do the experiment before I leave for my work trip.

I know from past experience how much of a change happens in three days, so I'm pretty excited about it. So, I'm getting going with my highest intention for the year right away, so a hearty pat on the back for me.

I need to work on the blue box, especially these two:

I'm someone who thrives on predictability and struggles without schedules or when I don't know what is expected of me.

I also tend to be way less forgiving of myself than I am of others, and to forget what I got right when I'm reminded of what I got wrong.

I cannot control others is a big thing I need to remind myself of.
Also I am allowed to rest…I luv to rest I need to work on not letting others guilt me for it. Kind of goes hand in hand with the first one
Not on the graphic but working on not fixating on past situations that I cannot control and never could

I have basically mastered the pink affirmations. I struggle with four of the blue.
1. I absolutely do not tolerate uncertainty. I’m working on having more faith and less fear of the unknown.

2. I can laugh at myself when I make a mistake but then secretly feel a sense of shame. That’s a trait of a child of an alcoholic and something I have worked on for a long time. Getting a negative partner out of my life will help me tremendously, but it’s not a quick fix.
3. This one is disappointing. I used to be such a positive thinker. I loved reading THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING, by Norman Vincent Peale. Deep down I still believe in it but too many traumatic experiences in my life have pretty much made me more of a negative thinker.
4. Apparently I am in a codependent relationship with my DH because his bad behavior gives me a sense of shame and embarrassment. It’s ridiculous. I’m not the one who made bad choices. I’m not responsible for him ruining everything. And yet, I feel like a failure. I have been loving, faithful, and forgiving. I can’t control him. I can’t stop him from blowing up our marriage. I need to let it go.

I have a lot of work to do. But I am proud of all the hard work that I have done the past few years. I’m healthier than I was 5 years ago.
