I thought some DIS members might have some wisdom to add regarding this :)

I just got back from an interview for a new part time job. They basically told me that I was hired, but I have one issue. I booked a trip to California a while ago, before I applied for the job, for March 24-30. Should I have told the manager that I need this time off at the interview? I want to let him know as soon as possible but when is the right time? The plane ticket and everything is all paid for. Plus, it's just a part time job that just pays a couple dollars more than minimum wage. Should I just send him an e-mail about it right now?

I'm not sure what to do. I don't want the manager to think I'm not reliable.

I would email him and let him know. I just got a p/t job two weeks ago. It was a sudden kind of thing, the person they hired right before I applied never showed up after a few days. Basically when i was dropping off my fingerprint paperwork (I am working in a school) they asked did I want the job, I can start Monday. I already had 3 different days of appointments (dentist, Dr appt that were made 6 months ago) I told them that and they had no problem letting me take those days off. Of course now I will not schedule anything during my work hours (10am to 2pm) but they were understanding that I already had these appts.

When I recently moved back to CT, I faced this same dilemma. I have a couple of smaller trips booked for this spring and summer each requiring a few work days off. During the interview process I did mention it as I wanted to be up front about it. It didn't cause a problem. I definitely see how a supervisor/manager can go either way with knowing though. I would probably let them know as soon as possible now. Congrats on the job!

Personally, I would wait until after I was offered the position, but before accepting, let them know of my conflict.
