New Jersey friends...Any Wildwood Crest tips?

I am originally from NJ, but have lived in Orlando for about 16 years. I would love to take my DD to the "down the shore" to Wildwood/Wildwood Crest next summer to show her where I vacationed w/my family every summer as a kid. However, I haven't been there in years. Any tips regarding the must sees and must dos, restaurants, hotels, etc. And since this is the budget board, any budget related tips?

The "Crest" has changed a lot in the last 10 years. There are more condos than there are motels now. There are also more family oriented places to eat now. Old favorites like the Lobster House in Cape May, The Boathouse and Urie's are still around but some new favorites like Beach Creek are pretty good.
As for the Budget advice, I would say that the condos rent out pretty cheap and you could save by making a couple of breakfasts or packing a lunch in the condo.
If you choose to stay at a motel, you will find that they are pretty reasonable these days and most have been renovated. Finally! lol
I think it is nice to introduce your daughter to the place where you went as a child. My children are more familiar with WDW than they are with Wildwood but we still try to get down there at least once during the summer. This year it will be Labor Day Weekend.

We are staying at "armada by the sea" for the very first time.....(on the beach)We are usually at the Caribbean Motel which has morphed into a Doo Op Motel.....nice heated pool and close to the boardwalk. If you love Cape May , like we do, there is a great restaurant in Washington square.....Nice little BYOB called Cucina Rosa.....hope you go and have a great time!!!

When we go we stay at the Seakist Motel in Wildwood ($150 night for a kitchenette room) It is a two floor, very clean, same nice family owns for the past 20 years! It is away from the rides but across from the beach, we walk to Morey's Piers but there is a tram car $2.50 pp each way now. We went to Uries but not very budget friendly ($23 for seafood combo dinner), very good and don't go to the Rusty Rudder buffet
Oh, and Douglas Fudge yum!

Beach umbrella rental is $15 but if you wait til 2:30pm it's 1/2 price.....bring your own better yet but if you're like me you forgot it at home LOL

They have a waterpark/amusement ride deal for family of 4 = $210. You get wristband for the waterpark one day and the amusement rides the next day.

Shoprite and Walmart is about 10 minute ride from the Seakist. Korr's orange sherbert is up to $3.75 for a small!! But it's so good.

I'll submit my vote for Beach Creak mostly because my uncle is the head chef there and I can vouch for his skills!

Some old favorites for me still are some of the arcades and of course Morey's Piers.

I can second Douglas Fudge! yum! the best anywhere! Also Mack's Pizza... a Kohr brothers frozen custard... I like staying at the Ocean Towers, nice full sized condos, pool and right at the south end of the boardwalk and the crest/wildwood border. You can walk right on out to the boardwalk but I think it's like 7-10 blocks until the attractions start up so it's nice and quiet there. Have fun!

So your going next summer?

1st go on the Wildwood website and request info sent to you.
2nd Around Easter go on Morey's webpage and get teh discounted tickets.BIG saving!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3rd don't hit the boardwalk on a Saturday night.To crowded and if you r in the Crest you might have to drive to there.Parking gets expensive on Friday and Saturday.We went on a Sunday paid $5 to park.
4th Go to teh CapeMay zoo it is so nice.
5th Water park is cheaper later in the day .

We actually just returned Saturday from a mini vacation in Wildwood. I do not have have any specific tips about the Crest as we stay in North Wildwood on 16th street which is right at the entrance to the boardwalk. It is a longer walk to the rides but a shorter walk on the beach and seems a bit quieter IMO. I also stayed there as a kid every summer and now share that tradition with my family. We have aslo eaten at Uries and The Lobster House which were great and enjoy the Vegas Diner for a quick breakfast (we usually find a coupon for there). I agree with signing up for info on their website as they will send lots of stuff, going to the Cape May Zoo and this year we rented bikes for an early ride on the boardwalk. Get tickets over Christmas on the Moreys website, they offer @50% of through thte first week of jan and then they still discount through the spring but the % is reduced. You would be amazed at the cost of some of the rides so I just feel better already having them and knowing I paid A LOT less!

A good place for ice cream, minigolf and arcade is Duffers in the Crest.

Also Sunset bay in north Wildwood is supposedly relly good and has a sand bar so the kids can play and you can have a drink...we still havenot gotten there but are hoping to do so soon!
