New Jersey - Favorite Restaurants?

Anyone familiar with Just Alan's...the feast in the forest? I'm thinking it was in Harrington Park. That general area any way.

Mother's, The Getaway, and Ashley's in Clifton were our hangouts. :)

I used to go to Joeys, Plum Crazy, Doc's and The Loop Lounge all in Clifton among other's. I was a regular 'Looper'- that was back in my Depeche Mode/Cure days

How about Alexis Steakhouse in Clifton? There used to be one in Hawthorne, too.

The Preakness Diner! Almost forgot that one. And the Oakland Diner. Used to stop in there for breakfast when I worked at Stage Hairdressers in the Oakland mall. WOW! That's way back!

Oh...I don't remember an italian restaurant at Wayne Hills mall either. However, that McDonald's was where I trained for my first job.

The mickey D's is gone!

Oakland diner- you mean the one by Pleasure Land? If so it's Hillside Diner - they have new owner's now.

I used to get my hair cut in that mall - it wasn't called that though, it was Carmelo's. And that mall is almost all Shoprite. The hairdresser used to be on the outside, now they moved them inside.

If I could Pin, I would ship you a Pompton Queen salad :goodvibes

Does anyone remember the name of the hot dog place that used to be in Fort Lee? I think they were fried hot dogs:faint:

That would be Callahan's or Hiram's. Both are gone now. :(

Callahan's tried branching into a chain, but it didn't work out. The Fort Lee location closed down a year or so back (I think). They had another location in Little Ferry on Route 46 just past the Circle (you Jersey insiders know where that is ;) ), but it closed down too a few months ago.

Cubby's in Hackensack still sells that kind of hot dog. Their food is great, but their prices and food court atmosphere don't add up IMO.

Thank you for the Queen Salad!   The thought of it will work! :)

I don't recognize one of your Clifton hangouts. Ashley's was the only place I knew there. I knew how to get there and then how to get back to Pompton Plains. Wayne was pretty much our area.

Pleasure Land? I'm not familiar with that. The Oakland Diner was on 202 (that's what I want to say.) When you're heading up the road from Pompton Lakes to Oakland. The diner was on the right hand side. Nothing else nearby that I can remember.

Pleasure Land was a public pool - it was sorta kinda like a Suntan Lake if you remember that place. Except it was a few pools I think. My aunts used to take me there - they were all teens then.

Yep - that's the diner. :thumbsup2

Reading some of these restaurants makes me miss home! :) I live in Toms River, but I my grandparents have a house in Avalon, so I spent (and still spend) many weekends there during the summer!

My favs:
Via Mare in Avalon. AMAZING Italian food. I have been coming here for dinner almost every summer since I've been born, and my grandparents know the owners pretty well. Guila (the owner)'s risotto is amazing, and the filet mignon is to die for!
Luigi's Pizza in Point Pleasant Beach. The best pizza in NJ. Seriously.
Tifany's in Toms River Amazing baby-back ribs.
Ciao Baby in Brick. Great Italian food!
Shogun in Toms River. Great hibachi. I normally go for the lunch special with my friends.
PJ Lee's in Brick. amazing Mongolian Barbeque, all you can eat too!
Craig's in Brick. Great American pub-like restaurant His burgers are amazing.
Cool Beans Coffee House in Toms River. great local hangout, and their grilled sandwiches are delicious!
Silverton Diner in Toms River, and Ocean Queen Diner in Brick. Oh how I love diners. :)

I also second (or third?) Uncle Bill's Pancake House. I've only been to the one in Avalon, but it's a Sunday tradition during the summer to go have pancakes here after church!

And for the BEST ice cream on the shore, Springer's Home-made Ice Cream in Stone Harbor. I've been coming here since before I was born, and don't intend to stop anytime soon!

I spent a week in Avalon this summer - and the Uncle Bill's I was referring to is my fav :goodvibes

Springer's is awesome! :thumbsup2
I like Avalon Freeze, too. Not food, but I love Hoy's.

Mother's Parking? :lmao: :lmao: No way! :lmao: :lmao:

If I had my camera I would have pulled over & taken a picture......it was so funny because there was someone in front of me with PA plates that really slowed down so I was guessing they were looking for Mothers as well & found "Mothers Parking".:rotfl:

Oh Jeez, Joey's and the Loop! What fun times I had at both.

Anybody remember the 80's hair band clubs...Studio 1 in Newark and the China Club in Hillsdale, I believe? We always went to the OL on 17 too. I think that was the Orange Lantern.

Wasn't TCBY at Wayne Hills Mall?

China Paradise! That was one of our favorite places.

Yup - there was a TCBY, a Sam Goody, a bank, a glasses place, a McDonalds and an Arcade. The Italian place was sort of near the arcade - on that side of the mall (the entrance to the restaurant was on the outside of the mall).

I used to commute to the city from Mother's Park and Ride. I always cracked up when I asked the driver if they were going to Mother's - it sounded so strange to say!

We used to go to Brother Brunos - what else? Bachagaloops. King George Diner was THE hang out in high school. I went to Docs on Rt 46.

Thanks for that explanation. I do remember Suntan Lake. And I can still picture it after it was drained.

Next trip you will have to take a picture and then post it here! ;)

Wow! All those years and I missed the restaurant. Hmmm...I remember an Arthur Treacher's somewhat near the arcade near the doors. Did Treacher's leave and the restaurant move in?

Mother's Parking...I still can't believe that one! :lmao: :lmao:

King George Diner...that's sounding familiar, too. Was it on the road to/from William Paterson? Pizza burgers are coming to mind.

Lauren!!!!! The China Club was in Hillsdale where I live now!!!!!

I sadly need to admit I was at the Orange Lantern a few weeks ago & it's semi-scary! I had some major fun there MANY years ago:scared1:

Does anyone remember J. Parkers in Ramsey? We headed there every Friday for happy hour:cool1:

Yep, it sits on the turnpike down at the bottom of the hill near the intersection of Valley Road.

Anyone remember Jahn's on Route 4, I think in Fair Lawn? I remember going there with friends and they had some pretty good ice cream.

Wow! I knew I liked you for a reason! ;) I was at the China Club almost every weekend seeing bands...The OL, sad to admit, is a blur...

I do not remember the place in Ramsay but how about...I think it was A's in Bergenfield? I went there alot to see Who Brought the Dog (a band).

Last Christmas we tried to go to Bachagaloop's and it had closed...:sad2:
We ended up going to Brother Bruno's for pizza! :thumbsup2
Our kids need to know what real pizza is like! (No offense to Ohio Pizza Huts...)

Good old Docs.. I spent way to many nights there in the Mid 90's going to chat parties. :scared:

I have to ask because I just did a search for Kermit's Pond in Oakland, and The DIS popped up!! :-D

Anyone remember The Alpine House? I believe it was in Towaco. Drove a back road to get there. We had some of the best family times at that restaurant! :goodvibes
