New info about Kindani

At Kidani Village there’s little to eat
Without a long hike and certainly sore feet
If you’re a dissatisfied kind of guest
You can always book at Old Key West
Bigger rooms and full-sized washers can’t be beat! :earsboy:

or

"You can always book at Old Key West
Bigger rooms and full-sized washers can’t be beat"
But you still gotta catch a bus or hike in order to eat! :rotfl2:

Couldn't resist!!! :goodvibes

BTW - I like OKW - same comment about CS as AKV though. A person can work around it, and live with it, but it just isn't my ideal.

yea but goodie to go or even Olivia's is not that afar way.

a half mile for me these days (okay I am just old) is 20 minutes. Can get to Goodie to go in 10 minutes from south pointe.

And these are the reasons why I do not like staying at big resorts. When I stayed at SSR the line for breakfast was unbelievable. Trust me, if I had been staying in a 1 bedroom and not a studio or had a car, I would have left. When I am in a 1 or 2 bedroom I don't care about counter service that much since I can do breakfast in the room, but I really feel for people with small kids who may only be staying a studio and now if they want a counter service meal they have to take a bus 1/2 mile away to get it. That is just silly. Or they have to put the kids in the high chair and drive to get breakfast. LOL. I would just keep driving and go to McDonalds if I have to go through all that, then drive to the parks afterward.

As for food, Sanna is an North-Eastern African influenced restaurant that has flavors of Africa and India which is regional to the area and fits with the theming of the resort. There are no plans at this time for additional restaurants at this time (although if demand warrants, they could very well add one).

A short walk from Kidani is the main building (Jambo) where you can also choose from Jiko, Boma and Mara, which again are all themed African with Mara being the least themed and generic.

I enjoy enthic foods, but Sanaa has no appeal at all to us. Add the fact that there is no QS restaurant, and that adds to our disinterest of this resort.

I wouldn't call Jambo a short walk from Kidani. If you are on the opposite end where the Pembe Savannah is located, that would be a very long walk. Fortunately, there is bus service, but it seems silly to have to take a bus just to eat fast food. Might as well just hit a park or WPE at DD.

La2kw: I am with you on that one. I would rather spend my walking for the parks. Time is of the essence and 20 minutes, or more, to get to a "quick" service is no longer quick.

I've been looking for the kid's menu, too. Pretty sure they will have one, I can't think of any restaurants that don't. I'm hoping they use the kids menu from Jiko - it has some great, healthy options for the kids and the kids desserts are also fun!

I think Sanaa looks gorgeous! Can't wait to have dinner there with my friend next month (she has managed to reach her 70s without ever visiting WDW!)

DNeph and I will be staying at AKV this summer and I have 2 ADRs at Sanaa for us, but there is nothing on the adult menu that he would eat.

I found a thread on the restaurants board that has a pic of the kids menu. Give me a sec and I'll find the link for you.

Where is there a CS restauarant for breakfast at either BWV or BC?

BWV does not have any counter service ... there is a bakery on the boardwalk, but lines there are really long in the mornining. The Beach Club has a small counter service area in the gift shop.

When SSR first opened did it have a counter service? I was thinking I heard that they added something on for dining, but maybe it was the TS.

It sounds like it won't be much different than OKW and SSR, but Mara is not that large and potentially could become overwhelmed like I hear SSR's CS is at main times.

I knew Kidani wouldn't have CS, but have always thought it was a poor decision. People eat every day and when on vacation many don't even want to make toast - especially if they have the dining plan. I'll be interested to see what they do actually have for food options. We'll be at Jambo in 2 weeks so I'll be able to take it all in first hand (but with a CS option!) ;)

I don't think Mara will be overwhelmed with Kidani guests ... it is just too far away for a quick bite to eat. Likewise, I don't think the Kidani pool will be overrun with guests from Jambo for the same reason.

BWV does not have one. One reason I will not ever buy at this resort. I want quick service options.

While BCV's quick service is small, at least it is there. I can refill mug and get coffee, etc and get something for breakfast. Also at BWV and BCV you are walking distance to other quick service stuff like Beaches and Cream and the kiosks on the BWV. However I agree that if you have a family this is very inconvenient for breakfast.

Coffee??? Does anyone know? Thanks!
OH I wish someone could confirm if we can get coffee, tea or Hot Chocolate!

But they already have (now) three table service and a counter service at AKL/AKV.

As usual Disney add three TS that are so themed that you can't please most people. I hear so much about Boma's and we were so dissappointed with it. Too Much ethnic. Great ideas to have all this ethnic food but you have to have some basics for those of us who aren't that impressed with paying a ridiculous amount of money to eat at a restr. that doesn't provide variety and some american fare. I can't wait to stay at AKV but won't be visiting any of their restrs. I personally think it was silly to put another ethnic restraunt with the same prices as Boma and Jiko"s and the same basic themeing. I would love to know how much business they do at Mara's compared to the restrs. from the AKL guests. My guess is that most of the guests don't go to those Rest. but my guess is that almost ALL of the guest that stay at AKL visit Mara's. Why would Disney not opt to put a small CS restaraunt at Kidani, I would think it would far outweigh in sales what it puts out in costs.

JMHO

I can't for the life of me figure out why they wouldn't have a small counter service at AKV. I agree this is way too far to go to get breakfast and if you have to hop a bus then might as well get to a park and eat there.

This was our number one reason we did not buy at Kidani and bought BLT. The BLT contempo Cafe has good choices and I don't want to cook on vacation at all.

The DVC FAQ for AKL states it is approximately 2400 feet from the porte cochere of one building to the other (about 1/2 mile). You can view a map of the resort at the DVC web page for the resort.

Where is there a CS restauarant for breakfast at either BWV or BC?

BWV- Boardwalk Bakery
BCV- Beach Club Marketplace

And just for comparison,
OKW- Good's to Go
SSR- Artist's Palette
WLV- Roaring Forks
BLT- Contempo Cafe

Kidani- take a hike (or a bus) to Mara. ;)

Kidani Village and Jambo House are the same resort. That's why I don't understand the need for more restaurants at Kidani Village.

yes they had a lot of that, but when i was there they had a carved roast beef, the usual childrens fare of mac cheese, chicken etc..

I am a fussy eater, but I went with an open mind and I put a small spoonful of everything on my plate, tried each thing and then went back for what I prefered. I did eat more of the roast beef than anything
My biggest problem was several of the food I had a mental image of cooked bugs..I know totally ignorant, but the first few times I looked I thought the raisins were bugs and some other things they had in the food looked like bugs. that made it hard for me to eat at first, but once I realized my silly mistake, i did better
In fact, I would have no trouble eating there again and that roast beef stuff would for sure be on my plate!

Oh and breakfast at Boma's is to die for. My trip coming up in 36 hours I have ADR at Boma breakfast for 5 mornings--all the days I will be staying at AKV

give Bomas a try again, you may be like me a find a bit more there than you first thought

as for the rest i agree they will need a CS place at Kidani..maybe that pool one will have enough choices like the CS at OKW does despite the smaller size

Oh thank you!! Not exactly what I was hoping for, but good enough to cover him in case he really won't try anything on the adult menu (he's 11). I am taking my dear friend to Sanaa at the end of the month before my trip with DNeph, so I can check it out and decide whether I think he'll enjoy it - I do love to expose him to nice restaurants, though, and he always loves the experiences if not always the food!
