New Houston Theme Park?

I've heard twice in the past 2.5 years from two totally different sources that Disney bought a very large track of land in the Houston Area. I have, unfortunately, not been able to verify this with any news articles or anything other than word of mouth. Does anyone else know anything about this?

We also heard that they have bought large number of acres south of Corsicana. They do own an executive getaway in the Athens area.

I wouldn't worry too much about these rumors. If half of them were true, Disney would already be the largest landowner in the US, and there's be dozens of theme parks from Honululu to Bangor.

The chance that Disney would buold a third resort complex in the US is extremely low, particularly considering that growth rates have been relatively stagnant since the mid-1990s. A new American resort complex would absorb crowds from the existing parks, which would hurt the company.

The economic climate may change in the future, making a third complex a possibility sometime down the road, but presently, there's no need to hold your breath.

I have heard this rumor for years and from different towns all over Texas. Lufkin, Corsicanna, Magnolia, Austin area. I just don't see it happening.

However Houston does need another theme park. Astroworld needs some competition so maybe they would not let their park be so run down.

yeah...my friends at school were even talking about it..I was umm...no...i think i read that that rumor has been around for like 20 years or something.
yeah houston could use another theme park...we never go to Astroworld anymore b/c its dirty,and unkept and like alot of the rides are never opened!

That in itself should prevent a major theme park in the Houston area. (unless it was totally indoors.) However, a park in the central part of the US makes sense, since the other two are on opposite coasts.
