Hello everyone. I am so happy that I found this site, it is very helpful! We are headed to DW next Wed!!! July 16-23 and we are super excited! I know we picked the HOT month, but the timing was right so we just did it! My kids are 8 and 4.5 and this will be their first time there. I have been ther several times as a child, but it has still been many years since I have seen it. I know a lot has changed since I was 14!!
One of my big Q's is about backpacks. I want to carry around a backpack with water, camera, and video camera, and some extra stuff like sunblock and water misters. I just want to keep it with us so I don't have to go to the locker every time I need something. AND I want to always have the cameras so I don't miss my kids expressions on anything!! So, back to my Q!! Can we bring the back pack on all the rides or are there certain restrictions on that? if not are we able to leave it over to the side with the attendents until we get off?? I have searched for this answer and cannot find it so I am hoping someone here will help me on this! Thanx in advance and anything other helpful hints on taking children to DW would be great!

Welcome to the DIS! You will have a great time! Just be sure to drink lots and lots of water. As long as your backpack isn't too huge, you should be able to take it on just about everything. It might crowd your feet on some rides, but you should be fine. I don't really know if you can leave anything with an attendant or not, I don't think I've ever seen anyone do it. I'm sure someone else will be along soon who might know.

Welcome.

You will be so glad you found this site before your trip. I'm sure you will find it very useful.

Have a great trip.

You can get cold ice water at any of the counter service places for free!

:welcome: to the DIS! We usually carry a backpack on the rides if we are all riding. DH would never leave his camera with anyone he didn't know. He doesn't like to take it on the wet rides, so he usually leaves it with me (I don't ride Kali since I don't want to get drenched, and I don't ride Splash Mountain since DD5 is afraid of it). You should be able to take it almost anywhere.

Have a great trip! You might consider packing swimsuits or extra clothes for the kids in your backpack - there are lots of places to get wet! :thumbsup2 You might also consider packing a trash bag to put your backpack in if you are going to be riding wet rides.

Be sure to tuck some ZipLock bags in your backpack for your camera or anything else that shouldn't get wet on a few rides such as Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids at WDW.

You may need to wrap the strap around your ankle on a couple of rides, as there is no place to leave a backpack when on rides at WDW--except in the main banks of lockers.

US/IOA does have a ride or two that requires use of a locker for backpacks and purses. They're located near the rides. I haven't been there, so I can't tell you which rides--just know that it's necessary!

Welcome to The DIS! You're going to have a wonderful holiday with your family!

Thanx for the info everyone! We are SUPER EXCITED!!!!! I went as a child and I want my kids to get that chance too. I'm sure we will go back again someday. We live all the way out in Washington State(thanx to the USAF!) so we are traveling a long way which is definately worth it!
Good to know I can have my back pack. (:
We will be going to AK(doing the character b-fast the first morning there), MK, Hollywood Studios, and one of the water parks...we wanted to do Universal, but I think most of the attractions there might be too intense yet for my little guys so I think we will wait on that one!
I will let you all know how it goes! Thanx again!
