Hello grown-ups!

We are very close to booking an adult only trip to the Motherland in October. We've never traveled without our children before to WDW, and I'm excited at all the possibilies opened up for us! Seriously, I'm thrilled to not have a stroller, backpack, taking a half hour to board attractions, sitting with three kids on my lap on a very crowded bus with a huge belly, etc. Can I request a kids-free area of a restaurant?? ;) I'm very, very excited!

So, what are some things that we just HAVE to do? I think we'll do the Premium plan for at least part of our stay (yeah, seperate ressies, I know) so we're looking into the tours. What else should we do? We'll arrive around noon on our first day, then have four full days, returning early (8am flight out of MCO) the last day.

Also, if you've gone on an adult only trip, what were the pros/cons? Miss the kiddos too much? As much as I love these little guys, I'm excited to have a vacation without them for a change!

I'm sure I'll see my fair share of crying, screaming kids, and I'll rejoice that mine aren't part of it!! As adult (and solo) travellers, do you have any advice on dealing with kids all over the place at the World? I probably sound like a snob, really I'm not. I love kids. I have a bunch of them myself.

Thanks in advance for anything you have to offer.

Greetings my UP friend.

So, what are some things that we just HAVE to do? I think we'll do the Premium plan for at least part of our stay (yeah, seperate ressies, I know) so we're looking into the tours. What else should we do?

Well, think of things you'd never do because the kids wouldn't like it or it would seem like a waste of time. Hanging out in the hot tub after dinner (if you're at a Deluxe resort), mini-golf (there's some excellent courses on property), wandering the Bordwalk, having a real, long dinner (I suggest Victoria & Alberts).

Also, you'll be there during the Food & Wine festival, I suggest looking into some of the tastings and seminars offered. You can get some of those really cheap. Spend a day just going from station to station around the World Showcase and eating and drinking everything in site.

We'll arrive around noon on our first day, then have four full days, returning early (8am flight out of MCO) the last day.

Just a note, but that's not a lot of time (especially for a split stay). Personally, I'd drop the Premium and stick around another day (if your babysitters can take it). If nothing else, I'd change to a late departure time and take an extra half day in the parks.

Also, if you've gone on an adult only trip, what were the pros/cons?

Get up when you want, no rushing in the parks, got to sleep when you want. Also, I would imagine there is significantly less whining.

Miss the kiddos too much?

Hard to miss what you don't have, but the experiences of my own parents have tsught me that, no, you won't miss them at all.

As adult (and solo) travellers, do you have any advice on dealing with kids all over the place at the World?

Mostly, they're pretty easy to ignore. If one does bump into you (literally, as in my case) remember that its the happiest place on earth, and so it's easy to get distracted. Smile.

If you are anything like my husband and I, you will miss the kids a little when you see cute ones running around the parks and be so thankful yours aren't with you when you see cute ones crying, screaming and throwing a fit in the parks! We went in Feb for 7 nights without ours and we had a fabulous time! We stayed at the Beach Club and just treated it like a regular vacation...we slept in, we worked out every day, we ate whereever and whenever we wanted, had lots of adult beverages...just enjoyed spending time together! In the 7 days, we only rode 11 attractions (lol!) if that tells you anything. We spent a lot of time at Downtown Disney just going from restaurant to restaurant having a drink and an appy, a drink and an appy, a drink and a dessert....it was great! We did see La Nouba which we loved and even went to the movies once. I do agree with the PP that if you can skip the premium plan and stay more days, it would be beneficial.

Make sure you do a Segway tour! 16 trips and DH said it was the funnest thing he has ever done in Disney.

Agree with the PP about enjoying your share of adult beverages. DH and I love to take a "monorail resort lounge tour" when we are there - our kids are old enough to go off without us now! We hit the bars at Poly, GF, CR, then take the boat over to WL if we have time. Do the same with the Boardwalk area bars too. Found such a quiet, relaxing spot in the Bellvue lounge at BWI with big leather chairs, music, and board games. I find that screaming children just make me smile now...I'm almost compelled to go and help the poor parents deal with the unhappy kid because it's not mine - so I'm not the least bit stressed about it!
