Hello,

We are thinking about buying some DVC points (resale) and aren't sure which home resort to choose. Ideally we'd go to WDW for 3-4 nights and then to Vero Beach for the rest of the week (3-4 nights). We'd hope to do this every other year. Most of the trips would likely be sometime in Feb, March, or April. We have 3 young kids (3 and 1-yr-old twins), so don't have to worry about school vacations yet (but will eventually). We're thinking a 1-br would be enough for the 5 of us and hope to take our first trip in 2012.

The home resorts we're looking at are SSR, OKW, and VB. We'd like to stay at AKV and VWL on some of our WDW trips and maybe, maybe try the treehouses sometime in the future.

Any advice for us? Thanks!!

if you want to try the treehouses, it would be best to buy at SSR and plan to book at 10-11 months out. SSR is a good combination of being onsite, low dues and low upfront cost (resale anyway).

VB in feb and april should be no problem to book at 7 months...in the summer is a different story. march/spring break - i don't know. i wouldn't recommend buying VB if you plan to primarily use it at wdw for a number of reasons (no onsite priority at 11 months/higher dues/risk of weather damage/risk of spinoff from DVC)...there's a reason the resale prices are lower.

here is a thread for more info about choosing a home resort.

Thank you! I was wondering if VB booked up during the spring and if we would want the 11 month window for that, so its good to know that the summer is the prime time there.

I agree that buying SSR for the 11 month window of tree houses is a great idea. One other thing to consider is to buy contracts at both resorts, since you know you want to stay there.

You could start out at SSR and then at some point, add on to VB!

Good luck!

VB in April is not easy. In Nov, I tried to book a week in April at VB. Not a single night! I am currently holding a cash reservation wait listing for a point reservation. Granted, I am talking about the Easter week. I suppose other weeks in April could be easier.

It might be easier too if it was at the 7-month mark.

Keep in mind that only a few resorts accomadate 5 in the room in a 1 bedroom (which will not come into play for a few years for you since you have little ones) I know BLT, AKV and I think they put a sleeper chair in at OKW (?) The others sleep 4.
