New here.. Seeking advice for Feb or May trip to DLR

Hi, I am so glad to have found these boards! There is a lot of great information here.

My family is planning a trip for either Feb 19-25 or for Apr 29 -May 4.

To be honest, I am leaning towards the first week of May.

Is there an advantage to either of the dates?

We are looking for decent weather but small crowds, because my son is severely disabled. Also, we will be driving from Oregon, and I think the drive will be much easier in May.

Any advice?

I would pick Apr. 29-May 4. Your February dates coincide with President's Day, so that will be a holiday weekend and has the potential to be busy. Also, many kids have that whole week in February off, so that can further increase even weekday crowds. Your Apr-May dates are just after Easter. You may have shorter park hours and fewer entertainment offerings, but I would expect you to see significantly lighter crowds than the spring break period that will just have preceded those dates or than your Feb. dates. Weather is also less iffy in Apr/May than in Feb.

We have gone the last 2 years the week around president's day weekend. During the week the crowds weren't too bad - one day we were able to walk onto some of the rides. I found the weather in Feb. can be a bit cold at night so May be better weather wise. I'm not sure how warm it gets in May. Last time we went they only had fireworks on the weekend because it was off season but it was a holiday so that was a benefit. My best guess would be that May has many benefits.

Hubby and I are feeling even better now about waiting until May. The only thing that was a little better about Feb. was that the kids would have to take less time away from school. I think that the benefits of waiting until May outweigh going in Feb for us....

Plus I feel better about the drive from Oregon in May!

Feb cons -
some rides down for annual maintenance
iffy weather

May pros
great weather
low - moderate crowds

May cons
more crowded than Feb

That's about it.

Hi there,

Just wanted to add to your post! I noticed you wrote that you have a disabled son. Make sure you visit City Hall for a Guest Assistance Pass for rides etc. and any question you may have to make your trip awesome.

It helped us out alot with our son when we went!
