So yesterday UPS knocked on my door and had a box from Amazon. Turns out that a very dear friend had bought me a Cannon Powershot S2 IS including case, battery charger and a 1 gig memory chip. It is beautiful and I just love it. My old camera was a Sony CyberShot, needless to say, they are VERY different. Not only do I not know much about this camera, but I don't know a lot about photography in general. I want to learn so that I can take dazzling pictures with my new camera....so, where should I start?

I live behind Magic Kingdom, so the World will be my subject mostly. My daughter is almost 6 and was adopted with special needs she is one of the most photogenic children I have ever met.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What a wonderful friend! You will love the camera and the great thing about it is that it takes great photos in auto mode, as well as in the more manual settings.

I have the same camera, I got it in February and LOVE LOVE LOVE it. My previous camera was your basic point and shoot that did most of the work. The manual to me was a little intimidating, at first, but it is a good idea to check it out!

My best advice is just play play play. With digital it does not cost anything to discard the photo! Disney is the best place to practice, there are just so many opportunities. I have found that I see things now that I never noticed before.

This board is a great place to ask questions and learn, even from just seeing what other photograph!

Good luck. My DD and I passed you recently in one of the parks, but now I can't remember which day or which park! I have been to your site, and read all about your family. Your daughter is a very lucky little girl!

Great! Now I know who to call when I am having issues! Have you figured out the Special Scenes setting yet?

We are at the parks on Th and Fr usually (DH's days off) we'll be around the 9th too. I wish you had stopped us and said hi! Maybe we can arrange a meet up soon! We are the lucky ones, MJ is an amazing kid, all thos other families who said no sure did miss out!

I use the Special Scene setting for many of the nightime shots recently at Osborne Lights and a couple at EPCOT on Sunday.

I used to FORGET that it was there (DAH!) I have used it for fireworks, and got acceptable shots at Hallowishes considering I was standing in the middle of Main Street with no tripod and nothing to rest on - my arms got REALLY tired!

I also used the BEACH setting when we went to Canaveral Nat'l Seashore a few weeks ago!

We will probably be in MK on the 9th - I think that is where the Mousefest folks are meeting that day!

We have actually seen you a couple times, but were either on our way somewhere or you looking involved with other folks around you! Next time I will be sure to stop!

How about this odd weather this week? It better clear up before Friday for MVMCP!!!
