new Hawaii Aulani resort

I hope this is the correct board to post this on...

I've seen the new website for the Hawaii Aulani resort. It says that Phase I is opening on Aug 29. Does anyone know exactly what Phase I is? We're considering going at some point but don't want to be there if most everything isn't done.

I didn't realize only Phase I would be done. I have seen the grand opening is coming and they are taking reservations so was thinking of planning a trip there in the fall. I just assumed it would all be done so would love to know too if anyone has more specifics on this.

That's what it says on the resort's website. I read on another thread here that all of the rooms won't be finished until 2013 so maybe that's what it means.

another question - do these types of resorts typically offer babysitting services?

The resort amenities will be completed when open on August 29, 2011 just the rooms will be opened in 3 phases.

These links are helpful, thanks. Few questions in case anyone here can answer. We are not DVC members so if we book this, we would booking the hotel I assume vs DVC villa rooms. Wondering if the other buildings on that map that shows Phase 1, 2, 3 that aren't marked is the hotel part? And presumably it is all finished.

I'm pretty sure more Hotel phases will be done before DVC ones. Since DVC is dependent on sales, it will build and add at a slower pace. I'm quite sure the amenities will be done either way.

According to Disney Goes Hawaiian, Part 14: Expedition Aulani at Yesterland (March 1, 2011):

August 29 is just six months away. At Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai‘i, that’s the opening day for the first 209 hotel rooms and the first 119 two-bedroom equivalent Disney vacation Club (DVC) villas. (Eventually, there will be 360 hotel rooms and 481 DVC villas.)

The Yesterland article has a great picture of the water slide mountain at Aulani.

Considering that Phase 1 will include the restaurants, pool area, and other amenities of the resort -- just not all the rooms yet -- it should be a great time to stay at Aulani. There will be fewer guests competing for those amenities.
