shelly, I personally also thought that Harry and Hermione would get together, but alas, JKR apparently had other ideas. I think most of us who were/are HHr fans took her books to be far more hidden-meaning-driven than they really are (i.e. we noticed a lot of the mythology references/what they meant, and some of the seemingly 'hidden' plotlines). The 6th book was such a disappointment for me. Either she didn't realize all the stuff she was putting in there that would make some of us think HHr, or she did it just to trick the more analytical readers.
I'll still read the last book, but I hated that 6th book with a fiery passion.
