Diagon Alley with a Gringott's-themed coaster is rumored to be going in the space vacated by Jaws in the Studios. There have been no official announcements, however.

When is Universal going to make it official,the rumor is a Harry Potter London area with the main ride being an indoor Gringot's bank themed coaster and a Hogwarts Express train ride connecting this area to the Potter area at Islands of Adventure,you hear of work going on behind the Mummy and construction walls up by where the train station would go in IOA,but I haven't seen too many pics of the train route construction.

I guess they don't want the GP postponing trips to see the current Harry Potter stuff. I don't see why they are waiting to announce what the Soundstage 44 replacement is though. I don't think people will postpone trips for that.

It seems to be that Universal's current strategy is to try and time their ride opening and announcements to take away a little from Disney's openings and announcements, so I'd look for something official to be announced on one of the rumors around the time that the Lion King wing at the Art of Animation is about to open.

I wonder if JK Rowling's new book has something with the Harry Potter announcement? Is it being delayed so that the entire focus can be on her new book? Will it be timed right when her new book comes out so that her name will be in the news?

No official announcements dates etc..For the same reason DISNEY has not announced the official dates for the Fantasyland expansion..1) They don't want people postponing trips to wait for the new stuff and 2) They want to give themselves cushion to get work done and account for any delays without having to stick to an exact date and p*ss off people that plan trips around it.
When Universal announces it, it will be well publicized.

There are pictures and several articles on the web about this new expansion. It's no longer a secret. They have artist's renderings of the various rides and buildings and also a rumor that there will be some sort of Hogwarts express to and from the two areas.

saw a lot of construction on jaws, london embankment type walls and already some buildings going up not sure how a train connecting the two parks will work how will they check tickets etc
theres also a large amount of work going on where the old soundstage by shrek used to be, we saw into it as they opened a door to let some supplies in, huge amount of ground work done they have dug deep down lots of concrete foundations done already and a large crane in place
