NEW Harambe Nights event Summer 2014 Animal Kingdom

$120 with African "tastes "sweet and savory" beer, wine, beverages, a special immersive live show featuring an orchestra and celebrity narrator, then more tastes, beverages, a street party with musicians, a DJ, artists, shopping and a "special farewell" by the Tree of Life. Sounds like a very fair price for 3 1/2 hours of entertainment and food! A concert ticket alone anywhere else runs 75-$200 depending on who's performing, and that almost certainly never includes
food/drinks and a family friendly after party.

I agree!! I think this sounds like a fabulous experience and I can't wait to experience it. I realize it won't be something everyone would want to do or spend $$ on but for us this sounds perfect!! The cost of entertainment is pricey anywhere you go. My DH enjoys our Disney trips but he is not thrilled to go back and do the same thing over and over again. He really enjoyed when we did Party for the Senses so I decided to book the Harambe nights to surprise him... I think we will really enjoy it :)

Sounds like fun! My husband and I are always looking for new things to do at Disney and they are doing a great job of offering us new experiences to keep us coming back!

Urgh, y'all are making it so hard to decided what to do.

I'd have to swap things around to have the night free to go. We can go on 8/2 but that is currently our day for Epcot, as it's most recommended that day. Our rest day is the next day, 8/3. If we got opt to do Harambe Nights we'd switch those and have Saturday our rest day (which is honestly better) but we'd go to Epcot on Sunday, where it's the 3rd of the recommended parks, instead of most recommended. With a crowd level of 8 I'm hesitant to give up most recommended.

But this is a one time deal for the night at AK. And we could take getting in Lion King off our list of things we have to get done on our AK day. Do those 2 pluses outweigh the park ranking minus? I tend to think so but I just don't know..... $300 (more or less) for 2 adults and 1 child. But it's one time ever (since we don't go all that often).... We opted to do the Sunrise Safari since it's a one time deal too (since we won't be back at CL at AKL). I do keep thinking, we'd get a meal out of it too so that does offset the costs somewhat. And if we can make a meal out of the CL snacks at night we can do so with what they'll have. We like snacking for 1 meal a day

So, for $120 per person, they get me to buy a show they could have included in my admission in a park sorely needing extra attractions? I mean, why could they not have alternated FOTLK and this show or if this show had to be at night, make this the "it" show to close out an evening at AK? It's not like AK has had any real new stuff since Nemo...and they have had many losses...

I look at it slightly differently.

First, yes the show is available during the regular operating hours. But this is FOTLK on steroids, with narrators and live music. That is worth value to me
Second, you are confirmed a seat to get in, no need to wait for any length of time to get in (on hot, busy days this can be huge value)
Third, the additional street festival activities. Again, has value

Do I think it's slightly overpriced, yes I do. I'd rather it was more in line with one of the parties at MK but it's not awful.

Too rich for my blood, but at least this sounds like something obviously designed to make money, but offering decent entertainment.

I would do this in a heartbeat if our dates covered it. Looks like it ends August 9 and we don't check in until the 17th.

I booked it for June 14th - woot woot!

I figured $119 is not only getting me a show, but also drinks & dinner….I had already made an ADR that night for Tusker House, which I've now cancelled. That dinner would have cost me a minimum of $35.00 - not including drinks.

With Harambe Nights, I'll have appetizers and snacks before the show, and then desserts after the show. There'll also be the amazing street party with music, and shopping available.

I think it sounds like a lot of fun, and I can't wait! :cool1:

Really interested to see this exclusive production. Did I read it correctly but did I see that food and drink are included?

Yes, food and beverages both before and after the show!

I did it. I got our tickets for 8/2. And even better, I could use the Disney Savings Account to purchase them. So that was like using money already spent :cool1:

We are looking at doing this in July - think it is OK for kids?

Depends on the age. I think younger children would be bored. It sounds like it's geared more for adults. JMO.

I can't wait! Does anything think they'll offer a TIW discount?? LOL

An evening out with the family enjoying a fun Lion King show, tasting new foods, listening and dancing to festive African music both by a band and a DJ, a street party with artists showing their wares, special shopping
opportunities, roving Stilt Walkers
and Disney Chatacters, plus a special goodbye under Tree Of Life(maybe some new disney magic where that last part is concerned!). That sounds like a wonderful family event!

People travel the world with children and I doubt families on safari and visiting villages in Africa ever have to ask "wonder if the kids are bored?" Go ! :) and have
a great time!

Has it been confirmed anywhere that park admission IS or IS NOT required for this event? Aug 9th is DS13's birthday but his AP runs out 8/8. So this would be perfect to celebrate with him, on our non-park day.

Also, has anyone been able to apply an AP or DVC discount to the price?

Check out the official Disney page on their website for specifics on tickets, discounts. It's under the special event section, or, just use the search box on their site for Harambe Nights.
From what I remember reading, if arriving at AK after 4 pm parking and admission is included with this special event. Double check, but that's what's coming into my mind.

It was my understanding from the site, that this is a hard ticket special event requiring its own ticket. That's what I took from it. It didn't say anywhere that you could use regular admission tickets to access it.

Parking is included in the price of the special ticket, though.

Ooh-oooh-oooh!!! GO check out wdw magic news! They are showing disney concept art for this event, have a write up on the evenings events AND have breaking news about AK new nightime spectacular Rivers of Light!!!!

It is being handled similar to a party at MK. Admittance to the event includes park admission but you can't enter till 7:00. You can enter the parking lot at 4:00 but it says you can't enter the park till 7:00. Though I do wonder if it will be like the party at MK where you can enter MK at 4:00 with your party ticket. It does not specifically say that, it only says 7:00. It specifically says if you want to enter AK prior you will need separate park admission.

I haven't looked at the details on the MK parties, do they mention you can get in the park at 4:00 or is it just known that you can?
