New Halloween Event?

There's an internet survey going around asking about possible themes for Universal's Halloween Horror Nights this year. (Screamscape managed to copy the descriptions verbatim, some are interesting.)

Mixed in, tho, the survey asks how likely you would be to attend a Halloween event at Disney-MGM. Definitely not Mickey's Not-So-Scary party; it would be hosted by Jack Skellington (Nighmare Before Christmas), and would feature the Disney villians, as well as the various thrill rides. Basically, a Disney version of HHN, or maybe an HHN aimed at "tweens" too old for Mickey and too young for Universal.

Anyone heard anything about this? Beause the survey was primarily about Universal, I assume they are trying to gauge potential competition; do they know something we don't?

I see no reason for WDW not to try and capitalize on this market either. Up to this point they have just been giving the business to USF.

I have not ehard anything, but it sounds like a great idea!

I have been to MNSSHP a couple of times (once with DW, DD and once with DW, DNiece). The two dates I went were sold out. If the MK event is always this popular, it would make sense to expand it to MGM.
I have not seen this rumor on any other sites, but I would be interested in an event like this.

I am very interested in this idea, and hope it happens soon. Any solid idea on when this might start? My DF and I go to MNSSHP every year. We also do HHN when we're there. We're getting married at Sea Breeze Pointe this Oct. and would love to have this as another option. Because of the size of our group and pure conveiniance we would probably do both of these and skip HHN this time out.

I have never been to MNSSHP... but I think a halloween party would be great around Twilight Zone.. It is an obvious tie in. Dark, Scary ride that involves Halloween night in 1939 It would be great

I first heard of this last June from a reliable CM (I can't say whom). They said that it was being discussed and wanted to know if we'd be interested. I said I knew of at least 15 other families from our area that would definitely be interested in a NBC Halloween event at Disney/MGM Studios. When nothing came of it last year, I figured the idea had been shot down.

Maybe it's back on the boards again. If so, I will definitely be there! :cool1:

I think this is a great idea. Would love to find out more info. Count me in too.

:thumbsup2

Anything to do with NBC, DD would be dragging me there instead of vice versa!

C'mon Disney!

What a great idea! :thumbsup2 I would love to meet all the villains! pirate:

We would probably still do MNSSHP as well for DD princess: but would attend something like this on our own so we could ride ToT and RnR over and over - without having to do the parent swap! :yay:

I believe it's true!

New Halloween Event Coming to the Studios
A new Halloween celebration is coming to the Disney-MGM Studios in 2006 according to some new rumors. The event, hosted by Jack Skellington (the "Pumpkin King of Halloween Town" from A Nightmare before Christmas), will feature "a horde of Disney's most popular villains" and will offer a new Halloween party for Walt Disney World guests.

“For the first time, Disney-MGM Studios becomes the host for all things that go bump in the night with an all new Halloween Celebration. Join Jack Skellington, the "Pumpkin King of Halloween Town" from A Nightmare before Christmas, and a horde of Disney's most popular villains as they set about turning the Disney/MGM Studios into a nightmare of 1000 screams. Visitors will enjoy the thrills and chills of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock 'n Roller Coaster, a colorful parade, and streets filled with ghouls and goblins. It's a Halloween party filled with Disney magic - only this time it's magic cooked up by the Wicked Witch herself.”

Sounds great! :teeth:

Hey hucifer, this is word-for-word from the survey, so I still chalk it up to rumor unless someone hears something more definitive. But if the survey is getting the same positive response the idea is getting here, they would be crazy not to do it.

Oh, okay. I agree with some of the above posters that considering MNSSHP sells well, I think this would be great for overflow guests with older children.

they figured out a way to duplicate to an extent the Haunted Mansion Holiday event/ redecorating theme at Disneyland. They have been promising they would do something Nightmare Before Christmas for a couple of years now at WDW. This would be how they could do it without not actually redecorating the mansion. I like the idea, it would be a welcome change from the now seemingly defunct Nightmare preview event at Disneyland that was cancelled last year and is rumored to be gone for good (not scheduled for this year either). I LOVE the Halloween Parties and Happy Haunts Balls, so maybe I'll get to try something new for Halloween as well! I'm still hoping they bring back the Happy Haunts Ball this year, but it's not posted on the calendar as of yet.

I have heard this one all over the place. I am not sure that the details are correct, but the idea is very popular with rumor mills everywhere.

As you may know, Universal is trying to position WDW as a place for baby girls and US as a place for everyone who's sick of princesses. I think WDW will respond to that by gearing some stuff, like the thrill rides they have added to virtually everything, to the older kid not totally taken with the idea of getting autographs from a guy in a Goofy suit all day. (Can you blame em?)
This seems right along those lines

A specific villains party would be fantastic!! and would double the takings of hallowe'en night for sure

While the survey did not announce who was paying for it, the bulk of it dealt with Universal. So this is most likely the Universal marketing department's projection of what they think Disney would do, and as such is far from set in stone.

That said, I agree with you post, this would be a good way to combat the latest Uni ad--and to cash in on those too old for Mickey and too young for HHN. Could it also be a trial balloon for a Shadowlands park? (another rumor that has popped up again lately)

Well, I think you can follow that progression. This is obviously a low cost idea that never needs to be repeated if it fails...unlike ab entire theme park.

I don't want to get too far off here, but I think it is important to keep in mind that WDW is the Theme PArk capitol of the world, and it got there by NOT being a thrill-ride teenage park. And no one knows that better than WDI

I would absolutely love the idea of a halloween party at MGM. Although we love MNSSHP, my older kids would like something with a little more "fright" in it (although they are terrified of the thought of Universal's Halloween Party). Seems to me that offering this would be a cheap alternative to building a park designated to Villains.
