Where on the ship are they doing the hairbraiding now? Also, do you need to sign up for a specific time and day to have it done?

I'd be interested as well....also we never had the hairbraiding done on CC so how much is it? They say the braiding onboard is the same price as CC.

Our daughter had it done on CC and it was $2.00 per braid. She had the cornrolls done back to the headband area with the colored beads in at the headband area. It really was pretty. We had it done on St. Marten last year for $1.50 per braid. Really would be interested in doing it on the ship so we don't have to waste time on one of the islands. So whomever knows the answer to where on the ship and if you have to sign up for a set time to have it done, I'd appreciate the answers. Thanks....

Hi everyone!!

Beginning on the 1/26 Magic Cruise, they are doing the hair braiding onboard during the days at sea. This was the first time they had tried it and it was a huge hit!!! I think they might have been suprised by how many people were interested.

The actual hair braiding was being done on deck 9....usually under the gazebo by the goofy pool. They would sometimes move off to the side if the sun was shinning right on that spot.

They charged $1.00 a braid or $2.00 for cornrows ($.50 more for long hair). They made appointments.

My daughter had it done and they did a very nice job!

Does anyone know if this will be done on the 4 day with Freeport? thanks!

Where do you have to make the appointment for the hairbraiding. Where is the sign-up for the appointments? Physcically on the ship, where do you have to go?

As I said earlier, the 1/26 cruise was the first time they tried this, so they may change procedures. Our experience was that the hair braiding was listed in the Navigator for 10-12 noon on our first day at sea. We simply went up to deck 9, as instructed and made our appointment then. It seemed to me that as the days went by they kept adding more hairbraiders and more time slots because it was a very popular activity.

I've got some questions about the braiding. I saw some pictures on the trip report page, and realized that this isn't the same thing as the hair wraps that you could get at Dixie Landings.

How long does the braiding last? Can you wash your hair while it's still braided? Do they put beads in it? and if they do, does it cost extra? Does it hurt to sleep on it?

Also, is there any place to get the kind of hair wraps that I was talking about earlier? Basically, they wrap thread all the way around the strands of hair, and weave in beads and stuff. That kind of wrap can stay in for a month or so, and you can wash your hair and swim with no problems?

Thanks!

The beads are not extra. My daughter had this done last 2 cruises and my daughter's lasted about a month. Yes you can wash your hair, you scrub in between the rows. I don't think they do the hair wraps. The braiding did not hurt when she slept.

Remember to use SPF25+ on the scalp that is exposed between the cornrow braids! Use a Qtip to apply & do so frequently while swimming, as that part of the scalp is not used to being totally exposed. My DD's friend had it done on the last cruise & she got such a bad burn on her scalp because she didn't use any.

To make the headband type of cornrows last longer, have your DD use a thick stretchy headband, or tight bandana over the rows while sleeping. It prevents the "fuzziness" around the braids. To wash, use a little shampoo on your fingers and just clean between the braids. With care, they can last a month easily.

My DD loves the headband type. It keeps her hair neat and out of her face. I french braid the back for her sports activities & it looks beautiful.

Another tip- when taking them out, take a manicure scissor and carefully cut the rubber bands first before unbraiding. Don't try to untwist the rubberbands. This will prevent or minimize hair breakage!

:)

Thanks so much!!! I'm going to have this done for my daughter! She absolutely HATES having me braid her hair, so it ends up really messy by the end of the day. If this lasts a month, I'll be super happy! And great tip on the sunscreen! I lather it everywhere else, but probably wouldn't have thought about the head!

I have never tried this but I have seen scalp sunscreen that you spray on your head like hairspray. I saw it in a local drugstore, and thought it would be handy for this very reason! I didn't buy it so I don't know how much it was or if it works.
If anyone has had any experience with this let me know, since I might do the cornrows on my cruise.
Thanks!

when i went on the 7 day cruise on 3/2-3/9 they were doing the hairbraiding next to the goofy pool (family pool). it happened on the days at sea starting sunday. i would suggest getting there right away because it books up fast!! if they run out of room the day you go theyll tell you to come back the next day. they will not let you book the other days till that day, thats how they did it with us. any other questions ask!!!!!!:jester:

On that sunscreen issue, there is also a product out that is in stick form. Mine is "Mustela" brand. It's a handy little case that looks like a mini stick deoderant. Narrow enough to go between cornrows. And such a deal...you're not left with greasy palms after applying it. (Don't want that drink to slip out of your hand, you know).
