New guy... with some questions

Hi all! I'm Don, and I am a huuuuuuuge Disney nut! I have been a member of another Disney web forum (Disneyworldtrivia.com) for a month or two, and have heard this place mentioned a couple times. Then when I ran into a couple DISboards members yesterday in line for Soarin' at EPCOT, I decided I needed to give this place a shot.

So, right off the bat, let me start off by admitting to ya... I'm not a teen (gasp!... a non-teen in the teen forums!). Although I'm not far from it (I'm 20, in case you wanted to know). yes, i go to college, and yes, I know there's a college forum as well, but seeing as most of my friends and my girlfriend are still teens, I spend more time with people in your age bracket than i do in my own, so I'm hoping I can hang here with you guys. if my being too old disqualifies me, just let me know and I'll show myself the door. Sorry if this is in a rule somewhere... i'm brand new and haven't read everything yet.

So, here are my questions. First of all, am I allowed to post here? Or do I have to go post with the old folks elsewhere? And my other question, do you guys talk a lot about Disney. I poked through a couple of threads and noticed many were not Disney related. If you do (talk a lot about Disney), you're all going to be like my new best friends. I'm just looking for a place to talk about my favorite obsession with the people i can most relate with. I hope to hear good stuff! Please let me know if I can hang with you guys!

I think you're welcome to post here. I think I've seen other people in their early 20's on this board. To be honest a lot of the people that post on this board the most regularly are in their early teens. I tend to hang out more on the community board "with the old people", even though I'm 18. Several other teen posters hang around there too.
People talk about plenty besides just Disney; it really depends on the forum. There are lots of them. If you know a lot about the parks and strategies for the parks, the theme park attractions board may be a place to hang out. Just poke around and see what you like best. Like I said I mostly hang out on the community board, but with a trip as close as mine (Saturday ) I've been bouncing around between boards recently. The majority of the people on these boards are friendly, and can relate to the Disney obsession.

Yeah, just after I posted that I poked around for a few mins and was looking through the Show your Face thread, and noticed that the majority of the crew here was like 11-15 and was beginning to wonder if I'd maybe jumped in too quickly. Good to see there's more of you though. My gf is 18, and most of my friends back home are in the 15-18 range as of right now, so that's kind of the age group I was hoping to find here. yeah, I'll probably be jumping back and forth between forums too. I already mentioned that i was a member over at DWT for a while, and i've posted all over the place there. i was actually kind of disappointed that we didn't have a specific forum over there dedicated to the younger disney fans. that's why i ran in here first when i found the teen forum on DIS.

so, as long as it's cool with everyone else that I hang out with you sometimes, i'll tell a little more about me! Home for me is waaaay up in CT, but I go to college in FL, just over an hour from WDW. I've got a season pass that I won in a bet with my mom over my grades last semester, and I drive on down there for day trips every couple weeks. In fact, i had a busy weekend the past couple days... I went to the magic kingdom on friday and epcot on sunday. i got to meet up with a bunch of people i met on DWT (and i know that at least one of the peeps i met is also a member of the DIS). it was really cool.

My fav disney park is Magic Kingdom, with EPCOT as my second, followed by MGM and then DAK (Disney's Animal Kingdom... just in case you guys don't use the same acronyms we do over at DWT). I've never been to Disneyland CA, or any of the overseas Disney parks. I've never been outside the US for that matter (World Showcase doesn't count!). My fav ride at MK is the Haunted Mansion, and Space Mtn. is second. My fav ride at EPCOT is (as of yesterday) Soarin'. Fav ride at MGM is probably Rock 'n' Rollercoaster (I say "probably" because I've only rode it once, and although I loved it, I really haven't been able to ride it again to analyze it). Fav ride at DAK is Kilamanjaro Safaris. My opinion is that MK is classic Disney at its best, being the oldest park and the one steepest in Disney tradition, while DAK is still a young park, weak by Disney standards, with plenty of growing up to be done.

Other stuff about me. Hmm... I'm a private pilot (yep, i fly airplanes!), I'm big into digital photography, i like to keep active by running and mtn. biking (when i'm up north that is... there's no mtns in FL), I'm a drummer, and a former hard-core marching band geek (let's hear it for the band geeks!) My high school had an awesome band, but my college doesn't have one so i'm kind of stranded there. I'm still really into DCI stuff though, if anyone else digs that kind of thing. Well... I dont' know what else i can bore you with for now, so I'll just leave it like this. If I think of anything else uber-important, I'll be sure to let you know.

Here's a better one of us. This was taken last year at her Jr. Prom. (Haha... I was 19 then! So that one belongs here!)

Oh, and Heather... your sig says you're going to be in WDW on the 1st. I'm going on that day (prob) because I finish with school on April 30th. I wonder if I'll run into you!

Micah, I saw a girl at EPCOT yesterday swinging around those little twirly lights that you can program to say different messages. hers read, "I love bellhops". I thought it was really weird, but it makes a little more sense after seeing your custom user title. I guess those guys have their own little fan club, huh?

Sorry Don, we're actually flying home on the first. Will just be lounging at the hotel for a few crazy hours before we hit the airport, then back to cold New England reality.
Where do you go to college? I've got a couple friends who will be off to college in Florida next year.
Couldn't agree more. MK is definitely classic Disney.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. It's in Daytona Beach (rough place... i know.

So... coming all the way down here from NH just to turn around and leave again 4 days before the Happiest Celebration on Earth actually kicks off, huh? That's rough. But I'm kinda doing the same thing. Driving back up to CT on the 3rd and 4th. Long lonely road when i could be playing at WDW. Of course, it's for a good cause. The gf is having her last high school concert on the 4th and I'd just die if I missed it.

I'm Laura, and I'm 17. (well, basically... on the 21st at least... lol).

My fav park is a tie between MK and MG. MK because you really feel the magic of Disney there, and MGM because I'm a thrill ride nut, and LOVE RnRC and ToT. hehe

And I see you were a band geek. WOOT for that. I'm in colorguard at my school, so most of my friends are guardies or band geeks. (or theatre geeks.. haha)

My gf was in guard too. she's awesome on the weapons! That's actually how we met. I was a senior in the drumline and she was a freshie on weaps. We kinda crushed on each other a bit during that first year, but we didn't start dating til last year.

Oh, and please don't rush your age on yourself. no good can come from it. I'm quickly coming up on 21, but i don't like talking about it much. It's something I'm really not looking forward to. It kind of signifies the end of all that is childhood. even after i turned 18, i was still like "well, at least i'm only an adult by some standards. i still can't get into bars or casinos, so there!" Of course, even once I do turn 21, you still will never catch me in a bar or casino. gambling = poorhouse, and drinking = looserville, followed by death. well, that's my way of looking at it anyway. sorry if i'm preaching.

Wow... you have a late spring break. Ours was almost a month ago! Do they keep you in school all the way uo to June or something? Yuck!

Yup, graduation's not until June 14. We started school around Labor Day though. But this is the typical spring break for NH public elementary/middle/high schools. Next year I'll have spring break around the middle of March since I'll be in college.
