Hi my backyard used to have an apple tree. Now its removed and the area had been replaced by new grass.

It just happened 2 days ago, and i did water the grass yesterday (thats it , nothing else ), but some areas already turned yellow today.

How could i save them ? If the solution would be fertilizer, what brand and type would be most effective ?

Thanks

You need lots and lots of water several times a day. You really need to saturate your grass for the first few weeks so that the new sod can take root.

I agree, more water, lots of it. It should be spongy wet all of the time--or most of the time. Water for 15 minutes every hour or two until it is well established.

What is your weather where you live? Is this shade or sun? Is this on flat ground or a hill?

New sod needs to be watered at least 2-3 times a day in summer, dependent on your planting conditions and temps.

As far as fertilizer, you can put down Milorganite. It will not burn. Basically it is nitrogen and non staining iron.

There is also "starter fertilizer" you can use however I would wait on that. Put that down when you seed the area this fall. And yes, reseeding in the fall is a must here. Do it early fall, like late Aug. or Sept.

I would purchase some grass seed from a place that sells high quality seed. Do not buy from "big box" stores. That seed is mediocre at best and it is not cheap!

This is the seed I use, Earth Carpet, and I get it from a country store. Bit of a drive for me to go and get it, but it is worth every penny.

OP, I agree with the PPs. You need to water your lawn much more than you have been. We had new sod installed a few years ago and were told to NOT fertilize it until the roots had had a chance to establish themselves. New sod is under stress. Adding fertilizer forces the plants to push a lot of new leaf growth, stressing them further. Wait til fall to fertilize.

PS: I live in Ontario too.
