How is the weather this time of year? HOw are the parks?? My son whos 9 has some health issues so we will be renting a wheelchair or those other scooter type things for him. Or Animal K!!!!

Im so happy to be going!!!:banana::cheer2::woohoo:

We feel this is the ideal time period....crowds have been low in the past.....weather can be down right hot (which is what we like) so pool time at the resort is important for us.

As for wheelchair rentals...while we've been in WDW, see alot of Walker Rentals....no info or feed back I can give you...

Best place: very subjective subject...but from our perspective: Wilderness Lodge..boat access to the MK, in the MK area, deluxe with a cheaper price than the other MK loop resorts. As for your 2 picks: we did AKL, wasn't impressed...resort room can be down a long long hall and very far from the pool and lobby. We saw very few animals during our stay (we had Savannah view) and only one option for transportation (bus)...African theme and food not to our liking.
POR: really spread out, huge complex....we never have stayed here but visit POFQ every trip...like the food court sandiwches on occasion, come for the nightly entertainment and the boat to DTD. Resort is more quaint and compact then POR but it's your personal choice...check out the Disney planning video and maps....good luck with your trip and remember to take it slow and enjoy all the senses while you're there.

Welcome!! You'll have a great trip!

I suggest checking out the DISabilities thread regarding wheelchairs/scooters. They are very friendly and helpful and will steer you in the right direction, I'm sure.

Weather can be quite warm. We've been down there twice during that time and each time we say never again. We're from the north and find the heat and humidity to be too much for us.

There is a resort thread here. Both are good, though we've never stayed at either! :lmao: We are, however, staying at Riverside for one night next week.

Good luck, happy planning!

Please do check out our disABILITIES Board for advice to help your son. I can tell you, however that in general there is a minimum age to rent and use an ECV/scooter and I believe that it is about 16. I am fairly certain that a 9 year old would not be able to use one in the parks. The easiest and most cost effective thing may be to see if you can rent a wheelchair at home and take it with you, or look into a Transport Chair, which are fairly lightweight, easy to push and not very expensive, most likely less than you will pay to rent a wheelchair for a week.

Have a great trip!

Welcome:goodvibes

We love going at the end of September. We have always had great weather! The crowds never bother us then. Our 1st trip we went in July & will probably never do that again. September is the best time to go in our opinion.:goodvibes

The minimum age for renting an ECV to use in the parks is 18.
Most of the off-site rental companies will not rent one to be used by someone under the age of 18 either. One of the companies (Randy’s) will sometimes make an exception for older teens.
The ECvs the companies have are mostly going to be too large for a 9 yr old anyway.

If you decide not to rent a wheelchair at home and bring it with you, follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES FAQs thread. Post #2 of that thread has information about renting wheelchairs.

You ask too many darn questions! :rotfl2: Do the Port Orleans! Its looks nice! You can see the darn animals when you go to AK!!!! If your going to do AK I will be forced to hurt you! I know where you live @! I will throw rocks at your house!!!! And blare Music while you sleep!!! And book your darn trip already you are going to make yourself MAD!! Look at me!!! :rotfl2:

I'm so excited for you! Late Sept weather is hot enough for shorts, but not as bad July and Aug. But bring rain ponchos! The crowds aren't bad and we had very little problems with lines and wait times.

As for the best place to stay onsite, there is no such thing. If you are on a budget and plan to spend most of your time in the parks, any of the value resorts are perfect. They are spotless with beautifully manicured grounds and they have a nice selection of cafeteria style food. As a resort guest you have access to the transportation services and the freedom to dine in any of the parks or the other resorts. You also get the magic hours benefit.

The moderate resorts are themed and all have sit down restaurants in additon to foodcourts. They have hot tubs near the pools, additonal options such as boat and bike rentals and tend to be quieter than the value resorts. The rooms are larger and contain refridgerators and coffee pots.

The deluxe resorts offer private balconies and even larger rooms with more ammenities than the moderates. Three of them are on the monorail line which is very convenient. Of course AKL is the only resort where you can sip coffee from your balconey as you watch a giraffe nibble on treetops.

Basically, its all a matter of taste and what your needs are on each particular visit. All of the resorts are magical, and wherever you choose to stay I'm sure you'll have a wonderful vacation.

Dana, Im booking Monday!!! Tommy is looking at the different places to stay at. You know Tommy he doesnt want me picking everything... WE are thinking Disney Caribbean Beach as of 4:20pm(1-29-11) check back tonight and see what we are thinking..lol... It's hard to pick from... I want this to be the best trip it can be since the boys are at a perfect age and by the time we visit again they will be 10 and 12. or older. Now here is the other thing... Do we just stay at Disney the whole trip or go to Nick and stay a night or two???

Can some of you help me with another question!! What are some nice places for a family of 4 to stay at off the park for 2 nights with 2 kids ages 7 and 9. Also can anyone please, please post some pictures of Caribbean Beach and some of Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarters?? Also which places has the best pools and pool slides?? Again, this is our first trip so please dont kill me with all the questions... Im asking alot now because we are booking Monday afternoon... Oh, wait yet another question.. So we are getting the base tickets for 4 or 5 days... so my question is... I know you can only do 1 park per day... but can we do a park and the water park in the same day?? We are adding the waterpark and DQ as the add on... Also, lets say we get the 5 day pass with the water park add on ( its that really like having 10 days)? Since 5 days at the parks and 5 days water park passes?? Ugh, sorry for all the questions.. If its like having 5 days at the parks and 5 water day passes we may down grade to the 3 day pass.... which would give us 6 days total... Ugh, hopefully you guys understand what im trying to say....lol...

Thank you for helping me... Can you please read my last post and help me.... Please just bare with all my 101 qyestions... OMG, Im so freaking happy to be going.. This is all me and my husband are talking about now... Hes super happy too... He's not like most men that allows the wife to pick everything.. He wants to look at all the places to stay, he reads about them all, he wants to help pick where we eat, what we do... He wants to add on the water park and more tickets now!!! He wants to rent a lil boat for an hour and take our boys out!!! He wants to do ESPN and DQ. Also has anyone did the Richard Pettty Driving?? My husband would love to do this but is it worth it???

What im meaning is we would get 5 days at the parks and 5 days at the water parks right?? its not 5 days total is it??? I think from the first day we get the tickets we have 14 days to use them correct?? Meaning lets say one day we do MK, the next we do the water park... wouldnt that be us only using 1 park ticket and one water day ticket?? Meaning we would still have 4 days left for park use, and water park use... ugh, im all confused now...:scared1:

UMM NO!! Means you have 5 days to do either MK or WP If you dont have hopper you can still do MK and WP in oneday, but you cant do MK and AK in one day! You can however, do MK, WP and DQ in one day!! But only for 5 days!

:thumbsup2 for Richard Petty. The $99 special ( or however it costs now) is nly 3 laps around the track and goes by really fast, but was still fun to do once...

Actually, that's not true. The Addons are tracked separate of the park tickets, so you have 5 addon entrances (either WP od DQ) AND 5 park entrances.

You could even go 5 days to the park followed by 5 days to the addons if you wanted :)
