My family of 4 has finally decided to go to Disneyworld. (My mom, dad, sister, and I) We have already decided on staying at the POP resort, found out about the hoppers, got a good idea of our airlines(not from US) and have talked to a travel agency. We will probably be booking everything in the next few days. We are planning on going on or around November 11 - November 18. Just wondering about insider tips and ways to cut expense. Also, are the refillable mugs a good investment? :) :confused3

One of my best tips is the Brita fill and go bottles. We took these on our last trip to Disney and took Crystal light packets. We never had to buy a soda in the parks and this was a huge savings for our family of 5. We also bought souvenirs at home on clearance at the Disney store. Every night we would put 1 in a gift bag from Mickey. Our kids loved this and never asked for much in the parks. BTW I got 7 days worth of presents including T-shirts, hats and sunglasses for under $40 for 3 kids.

Thanks for that. I have heard a few people talking about crystal light packets in bottles of water. We are from Canada so we will be spending a limited amount of time in Disney so we probably won't get around to discount stores for Disney merchandise. Do you know if the souvenirs to buy in the parks are really expensive? We were thinking of buying things along the lines of shirts, pens/pencils/notepads, Mickey Mouse Ears, etc. Thanks again.

mickey mouse ears were like $10-15. The shirts for adults were like $15-20. The refillable cups were a big investment. WE would go to the food court every day for breakfest and get drinks and when we came home from the parks we would use them too. If you drink sodas or water a lot they are pretty good.

Thank-you. I suspected the shirts would be around there. I had no idea the ears were that much. Oh well, this will probably be my only trip to Disneyworld with my parents and sister and I so we might as well splurge, lol. We probably will buy the mugs because we do drink soda and water a lot and walking around the parks will probably leave you pretty thirsty huh?

You can get ice water free. Just ask for a glass of water. I highly recommend drinking lots of water in the parks (no soda). You will be in a much warmer climate than you are used to and will dehydrate quickly if you are not careful. Save the sodas for the evenings after the parks (that's the rule in my house).

There are lots of ways to save money at WDW. Just keep asking, you will eventually get lots of advice. We buy very few souveniers. I allow each person 1 souvenier. The best souveniers have been our pictures. I highly recommend a camera.

It was wonderful...

We got 1 refillable mug...I had coffee every am. I gave the kids a slushie a couple times and DH filled up with soda & hot chocolate a few times. It was great and a nice souvenir.

We brought snacks, fruit cups, & juice boxes from home for a couple breakfasts and for snacks. We did the dining plan and ended up taking about half home but was glad for the option.

We had a water bottle that attached to our backpack and re-filled it as needed at water fountains at parks.

I bought each child [3] mouse ears with their names in embroidery for about $10 each about half way through the trip. They loved them.

Have a great time!

Trish

Thank-you everyone. We have actually booked everything now and instead of going in November, we are going March 22. I'm glad to hear about the mugs and hats. I understand about the water and we will be sure to drink lots. Soda it good too though! lol. Thanks again.
