New gift cards and charging to room

My mom has bought us a disney gift card to use on our honeymoon. Does anyone know if we can put that down at check in to use when we charge to our room, or if we put down our debit card to charge to the room can we use the gift card to pay off the balance before it is charged to the debit card?

You can always pay off your bill before you check out. We always go up the night before and get the print out to make sure that every thing is correct. Not sure if you could use the gift card but you could use your debit. I am sure someone will know.

This is a new gift card purchased at WDW (well my mom purchased it through WDW merchandising since she is in NJ) and is good throughout WDW.

You could just use the card for your purchases or meals directly and don't charge back to your room.

I read an article that said the new Gift Card could not be used for hotel rooms. I don't know if that means that you cannot run a credit line against it at the hotel. I'd call and ask at the hotel. From everything I've heard, I doubt that you can do that.

I'm going to agree with this one. It's actually called a "shopping and dining gift card", or something like that.

Even if a CM told me I could do it, I'd still be leery. I just picture you checking out and being told "no", and then having to a) pay cash and b) use up the gift card buying stuff in the hotel giftshop you don't really want but want to use up the card.

If I were in the situation, I'd just use up the card as I go, then start using the room charge. Safest that way, IMHO.

BTW, congrats on the free loot - does your mom want to send me one?

Thanks for all the info. We were just trying to avoid carrying another card if possible since we like to just carry our Key to the Kingdom card - no big deal to put the giftcard in my pocket too.
