After years of college housing and apartment living, I now live in a house that is desperately in a need of landscaping. I am thinking of planting some annuals that I could start from seeds next spring. I'm also toying with an idea of blueberry bush. Can you recommend some good seed/plant catalog comany? Even I know of Burpee's, but I would like to get a few more names for price comparison and variety.

Thank you. :wave2:

Welcome, Kay! :cake:

Sounds like you're ready to undertake a big (but rewarding) project! :)

I've never started annuals from seed (except for a few morning glories, I just buy the cellpacks at the garden centres ( I'm lazy that way..lol), but here are a few websites that have been mentioned by some of the other Buds. It's fun browsing through them! :)

Thompson & Morgan

The Seed Rack

This site seems to be a particular favourite! :)

Wayside Gardens

Any other suggestions for Kay, Buds? :)

Park Seed for annuals

Gilberthwild for daylilies, hostas, peonies

Van Engelen or (Scheepers - a division of Van Engelen for smaller quantities) for bulbs

Wayside Gardens for roses

I've had blueberry bushes, but have not enjoyed any berries. That's because as soon as there was even a hint of blue a robin would come and eat it. I even covered bushes with the cloth mesh that is sold to keep the birds out. Birds would get their wings caught in the net.

I have not had this problem with raspberry bushes, I really don't know why. Raspberry bushes do send out runners and go wild, easily taking over an area, but in Ohio I usually get 2 crops, so I've given up blueberry growing and enjoy the raspberries.

If you want to try blueberries, be sure that your soil is well prepared, it must be acidic. When I had them, I needed to plant 2 varieties for cross-pollination, so check to see if your variety requires that as well.

I've used Park seed catalog as has others.

Good luck and enjoy the fruits of your labors!
