"While I don't think all of the info on that thread is 100% accurate I'm confident we will see a free dining promotion released next week.

I would put my money on seeing it come out on 8/3."

Wonder if it has something to do with the blackout dates. Just a guess.

Not really sure how this works, I talked to someone today and they told me that you can get the fd, even if you book a few days before it starts, as long as you are in that time frame, anyone know for sure. I will be arriving 4 days before it starts and staying 4 days after.:confused3

You must check in within the days of the promotion, you can make split reservations one for a room only for the days before the promotion starts and a second starting the first day of the time frame, you will get only FD to the second reservation. If you do only one reservation and you check in day is before the time frame of the offer you don't get FD at all :goodvibes

But only if you split your stay and do room only the non FD days at the beginning and 4 days of FD at the end.

The other way around, it works. If you check in the last day, you get it all your days. It's all based on your check-in day. With a split stay, you'll have 2 check-in days.

Did they change this?? Or did the CM not know what she was talking about last year? I called and asked if we could get the FreeDDP for the whole trip even if only 3 of our days were during the time frame for the discount and I was told no. She said that any days outside of the discount time frame were not included in the discount and had to be paid for.

I am confused about the comments regarding the blackout dates for the previous two years. Several people have stated that the two weeks in mid October are typically blacked out, but when I look at the historical data on Mousesavers, it shows that in 2009, free dining was offered to the gp for stays from 9/27 - 12/17 and room only discounts from 10/4 - 12/24. For 2010, it shows free dining for the gp from 8/15-12/21 and room only discounts from 10/3- 12/31. Does Mousesavers not list all the blackout dates?

I called yesterday to see if I had a pin attached to my name and I asked the CM if the week of the 16th-22nd is a blackout period and she said no. Of course, I know CM's can give you misinformation but she did not hesitate when answering.
These are the FD dates from 2010, and mid October was blocked out:

2010: Oct 1 - 7 • Oct 22 - 28 • Nov 12 - 18 • Nov 27 - Dec 2 • Dec 10 - 21

Sorry Mr. John Mage and with all the respect that you deserve but time will tell who have the reason. This info is 110% accurate. :thumbsup2

Again, that is not correct. Your check in date must fall within the free dining promo dates for you to apply the discount to your reservation. As I recall, you dates were in the middle of the blackout, so even doing a one or twonight, room only reservation doesn't really help either.

Thanks for the info! The Shades of Green web site says that if you stay at SOG, you can make ADRs, so I didn't know if that applied to the Free DP or not. So I guess we could try to get the military discount at a Disney resort, but not sure the in-laws would go for that because they want to stay at SOG.

Thanks for your help!
The dining plan nor free dining have anything to do with making Advance Dining Reservation. Anyone - locals, people staying off site or on site - can may dining reservations.

If I take off the food for the first 4 days, then will get it for the next, I figured it out to make 2 res. it would cost more money, as the tickets get cheaper the longer you stay. Guess no fd for us.
Thanks for all of your help.:sad2:

Princess Tiffany princess: yes you have spent many hours on several different threads helping everyone plan their vacation. Thanks so much for all the time and effort!!!
You're welcome :-) I just keep popping in and out between laundry loads and planning Disney trips :-) We are leaving for Disney in leass than a week to celebrate our oldest daughter's b-day! Even though it's going to be hotter than blue blazes, I can't wait. We don't typically go in August, in fact never because we like the fall and winter so much, but she has been asking for years to go on her birthday and I got a FD pin for that week, so, heat or not, we are going :-)

I wouldn't look for any 2012 discounts until probably at least October.

PrincessTiffany-You seem quite knowledgeable on all of this...could you explain your rationale for thinking October? I checked historical dates on Mousesavers and I was thinking mid-August. I was just wondering why it would most likely be later?

No, my guess would be the fact that Disney Visa holders have not been mentioned. In the past DV holders have ALWAYS gotten the free dining offer 3 days before the general public. I will be shocked if DV holders don't get first dibbs on this offer - it's really the only decent perk of having a Disney Visa.

Of course, this is all specualation, like everything else on this thread . . .

Because last year was the first and only time I have ever seen a FD discount, or any discount for that matter, released almost a year, or over a yea,r in advance, and since there is no mention of 2012 dates in this current rumor, I would think they will go back to releasing late winter/early spring dates in the fall, as they had done in previous years.

Again, this is all specuation at this point.

I posted John's comment more as a confirmation that FD is coming August 3rd.

Did not mean to offend the OP. I greatly appreciate Danny's courage to post this information! :thumbsup2

Relax and have a wonderful trip!!! My daughter and grandkids were there in the June heat but still had a lot of fun! Just take breaks and enjoy the pool. I'll be there for 3 weeks Oct/Nov and 4 weeks in Jan/Feb.

Here's hoping everyone gets the discount they are wishing for .... FD or a great room % off. pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

I understand that :thumbsup2, thank you for your nice comment :goodvibes

I thank everyone for your help. We canot change our dates as we already booked our flight. and to break it down to two res. would cost about 1000.00 more so we would not save very much. We are a party of 9.
