what else besides Expedition Everest will be new in 05?
(we missed Stitch when we were there 11 days ago)

A new stunt show is scheduled to open in MGM (I believe in the spring). The name escapes me now. It's a duplication of a show from the Disney park in Paris.

Does anyone know if there will be a new theme (ie Where Magic Lives), what it is, and when the merchandise will hit the stores?

Expedition Everest is not scheduled to open until 2006.

New in 2005 will be Soarin' Over California (?) at Epcot, which is a clone of the ride from DCA. The reason for the ? is that Disney hasn't really made clear whether they will reuse the film from the California version or prepare an entirely new film. The most recent rumor I've seen is that they may film scenes all over the US for the WDW version.

Disney Studios is getting the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show from Disneyland Paris. This is a live auto stunt show that will be performed in a new theater constructed where the residental neighborhood stood as part of the backlot tour.

Both "Soarin" and the Stunt Show are scheduled to open in May 2005.

Also of note is the start of construction on an expasion at Typhoon Lagoon. Part of the expansion includes the addition of a "Master Blaster" water slide. If I understand this correctly, the slide will use water jets to propel a raft along a slide that goes both down and UP. Construction on the slide has already begun, and should be completed when TL goes into rehab this winter. Look for that to open in the Spring of '05.

I thought that I read somewhere that Soarin opens in March. AM I mistaken?

Too far off to tell. The entire Land Pavilion is supposed to close from January to mid-March for final integration of Soarin and probably a re-theme as well. I wouldn't necessarily conclude that Soarin will immediately open with the pavilion in March.

May is the commonly-used target date to coincide with the Disneyland 50th anniversary celebration.

But, when it comes to any attraction opening, the schedule will always remain in flux until 2-3 months beforehand. Word was that Disney wanted to have Stitch's Great Escape open by mid-October. However, just a few weeks ago they announced the AP holder preview dates during the first week of November, with the formal opening to follow a couple weeks later.

I'd say that, particularly in the case of Soarin, "soft" openings should begin right after the Easter / Spring Break crowds subside with them having an eye on late-April, early-May as formal opening.

For a preview of the new slide in Typhoon Lagoon, watch "10 best water parks" on "world's best" on the travel channel. It shows MB rides in other parks.

MB also has it's own website.
