My ds was diagnosed with a wheat allergy today. :sad1: We are waiting to see his allergist, but his blood test was very high. My dd had numerous FAs but not wheat so I'm unprepared on how to handle Disney. My main concern is the hidden wheat and how to explain to my 3 yr old that looks at pictures of cupcakes from Starring Rolls everynight he can't have one. :scared1: A mad 3yr old is SCARY.

I think I can handle TS fairly easily since dd's allergies were so severe.
Our current TS are:
Askershus-B
Cape May Cafe-B
California Grill-D
Artist Point-D

Where are the best places to eat CS. He's a pretty sophisticated 3 yr old, his favorite food is sushi.

At least I have time to plan and change reservations if I need to. I'm so bummed for him, I thought we had dodged the food allergy bullet with him...

I don't have much advice on going Gluten Free in WDW (haven't been there since my wife went GF), but people will be along shortly and give you advice.

Also, check out any threads on Gluten Free or Celiacs disease - there is a ton of info in this forum for you!

Babycakes at DTD has gluten free cupcakes. Several CS places have gluten free brownies.

We ate at Chef Mickey's Feb 2010 and the chef brought out DD GF cupcakes. Hoping when we go back in "10 DAYS" :cool1: they will still have them. Email the dietary department and they will forward you a list of locations and what food is available.

WDW is absolutely a pleasure to work with when it comes to food allergies. I myself have celiac disease so I have to avoid gluten allergens.

If you go to any quick-service restaurant on property, they will have something ready to prepare for an allergy. I've eaten at the following locations and everything was fabulous.

- Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe
[Roasted Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans]

- Colombia Harbor House
[Chicken Tenders and french fries]

- Pecos Bills
[Cheeseburger WITH BUN!! and french fries]

When you do approach the cashier, mention something like 'We have a food allergy in the party'. The cashier will then flag down a Coordinator, who will discuss all the options available at that location. Then, the coordinator will prepare the meal fresh themselves to make sure there is no cross contamination. It takes about 4-6 extra minutes to have the allergen items prepared.

Now, I am not positive, but I've also heard there is gluten free pizza at Pizza Planet and Pizzafari? I haven't gone yet, but excited to try. :) ALSO! There is a gluten free brownie that is DELICIOUS. Just a heads up if the location carries them. Some do, some don't.

Good luck and happy eating! :)

Actually, not every counter service is allergen friendly and it usually takes much longer than 4-6 minutes to prepare safe food. It is usually up to 45 minutes depending on the allergen and location.

Yes, Pizza Planet serves a GF pizza, but if you are not on the dining plan you will be charged more.

The GF buns are a personal preference, not many like them.

I hope I don't come off sounding like a know-it-all, especially because you don't sound new to food allergies, but are you sure he's allergic to wheat? I'm assuming at his age he's been eating wheat very regularly for years without obvious reactions. What caused you to test him for a wheat allergy?
I know you said his score was very high, but that's not unusual for wheat scores.

A commonly recognized study designed to develop PPVs (Positive Predictice Values) showed that you had a 95% chance of having a true allergy, rather than a false positive, at the following levels.

Egg: 6
Milk: 32
Peanut: 15
Fish: 20

For soy and wheat, however, they couldn't find a 95% level. So they reported that at a score of 100 there was a 75% chance of being wheat allergic. And below 79, there was a 90% chance of NOT being allergic.

I would not pull a food as big as wheat based on a test alone, but obviously I don't know the whole story.
