Sorry, I didn't mean for my comment about not cruising
DCL again to be misleading. It was our first cruise ever and we just learned that it really wasn't for us.
The ship was huge and beautiful, the food and service wonderful, the shows fun and entertaining, and the accomodations adequate (we had a family of 4 in a Cat 11). However, it was a stretch for our vacation budget to go on the cruise (even offseason in a Cat 11!) and in my honest opinion, our kids were too young for everyone to get the most out of it (ages 3 and 6). DD6 loved the sound of a lot of the Club's activities but was usually unhappy and/or crying by the time I picked her up, which was never more than an hour or 2 after I dropped her off. DD3 decided after the first night that she didn't want anything to do with the Club unless mommy stayed with her. She only wanted to participate in free play, not the organized activities, which were more appropriate for mature 4's, not "just turned 3's". So, we spent a lot of time in the cabin with DD3 napping, or with DD6 wanting to watch TV. DD3 also decided it was time to become extremely clingy so I spent most of our meals with her in my lap, squirming. The kids were wiped out by 8 or 9 pm so we were back in the cabin immediately after the show. I thought that
Castaway Cay would be a wonderful day for the kids since they love sand and water. But, the water was too cool, even for the kids. DD6 went to the kids club for one activity on CC and when I went to get her, she was crying, having rubbed sunscreen in her eye. When I asked her if it just happened, she said no, that her eye had started stinging shortly after I dropped her off. My kids are early risers and there were no family activities until late morning, barring the kids club that started at 9:00. With the weather too cool to enjoy the Mickey pool, we spent most mornings wandering the ship or watching TV.
In the end, a lot of money was spent for some very good food and excellent service but not a lot of fun.
