I recently returned from WDW and saw a group use a Fast Pass that was not like the one from the machines. I looked like a park ticket. At first I simply noticed it but did not give it a second thought until a day or so later I saw another.

Does this sound familiar to anyone.....something new perhaps.

I have seen some fastpasses given for special circumstances, like a ride breakdown, that could be used on any ride at any time in that particular park. Maybe that is what it was. They may also have been a "special guest" of the Disney company, for some reason.

Also if your park pass gets demagnetized, I've seen them issue a special non-park ticket card that is good for that day only, but you still have to insert that one into the fastpass machine, that way you don't need to run to guest services to get a new ticket right away.

Possibly, it could also have been some sort of guest assistance card for a hidden disability.

when we took the DVC tour, they gave us each a card, hard plastic with DVC logo, that had 3 immediate fastpasses on them. Meaning put the card in , get a fastpass good right then. Kinda like a thank you for the tour.

My thoughts are exactly what Chuck indicated in his first paragraph...either some sort of VIP pass or "make good" pass from a ride breakdown or other reason.

Or it could have been just something a CM gave out for no reason. We were in DAK once and struck up a quick conversation with a CM who had on "Dinosaur" lab worker outfit (those lovely yellow and black ones), which was where we were headed. We were telling him how it's DW's favorite ride and he stopped us and wrote us out three fast passes (good anytime) along with one free ride photo for Dinosaur. It was one of those "CM magic" moments and we thanked him effusively, got his name and I made sure to write a note when we got home mentioning his name and his kindness.

So it could have been one of those kind of things...the paper he wrote it on was like a little form (3" x 3" maybe?) and we just went straight to the FP entance and redeemed it.

Could it have been a guest assistance card? They work like fastpasses. These are given to guests with special needs. We get them for my autistic nephew.

Please note that the GACs (Guest Assistance Cards) are NOT automatic fastpasses in any way, shape, or form. Once upon a time at Disneyland in CA, these cards did work like "go to the head of the line cards." However, due to much abuse, Disney is much more careful now.

If you have a special need, you need to go to Guest Relations, explain exactly what the situation is and what type of accommodation the person in your party needs. Most CMs at most rides/attractions will bend over backwards to make you comfortable while you wait your turn like everyone else. They will provide a private waiting area, a shaded or cool waiting area, etc., but will not allow you to "fastpass" the attraction.

Sorry, don't mean to sound like I am being rude or anything here...this is just sort of a hot button topic for me. It seems that every time I visit WDW, I notice someone trying to abuse the system just to avoid waiting in a line. Relax and enjoy the magical view...lol...

Have they recently changed this policy? Last time we took my nephew was May 2005 and it definitely worked like a fastpass. We showed the card and were escorted to the front of the line. It has been over a year so I guess things have changed.

Right and this is what we see either following us or us following them on rides as we use our fastpass.

I think some come on here saying it's not to try to help stop the abuse but time after time I've seen or I know someone who has gotted that card and a wheelchair just to skip lines. This makes it bad for those who really need them and bad for those waiting and paying the same price .But this is not a Disney problem as it's a moral problem in the ME world we now live in.

Wheelchairs no longer get FOTL access on most attractions, and in fact, we often wait longer than those in the regular queue. Some type of GAC may grant FOTL depending on the needs of the individual, but they are rare. Also, many Make a Wish terminally ill children get FOTL access, and if that inconveniences some people too darn bad IMO.

The DVC boards are not the appropriate place to discuss whether some folks abuse those systems put in placee to help those with special needs. Maybe you should visit the disABILITES board and continue this conversation there.

The question of whether it is a new FastPass or not has been answered. It could be a "special guest, a Make-A-Wish guest, or a very specialized GAC card.
