New Englanders: Are EPCOT Resorts Too Much Like Home?

Interesting post. We're from New England. We stayed at WL one time and all of us agreed that while it is a beautiful resort, it reminded us too much of NH and Maine. As for the Epcot resorts, they never really applealed to us, don't know if it's the "NE beachy" atmosphere or what? We love the Poly, love that tropical feel. I guess I would have to say that when we vacation out of NE we like a totally different atmosphere, a real Florida feel. I always thought that it's so great that Disney has so many different types of resorts, something appeals to everyone!

As long as there is NO SNOW - they don't remind me of Vermont at all!

WL - I thought this would be too much like Vermont mountains, but it was more like being out west. We liked it so much we are staying again in May!

I will be staying at the Boardwalk in April. We stayed at the Dolphin and spent lots of time on the Boardwalk during that visit. Didn't remind me of Vermont at all, but maybe if I were from the Cape or Atlantic City I would feel similarities. The palm trees, sand beaches, and umbrellas made it feel tropical

Anyway, anywhere in WDW is fine with me!

I suggest the Boardwalk. It is not a New England theme, but rather the mid-Atlantic,so it would not be the same as home to your New England family.

Ive never seen a gyser in Maine - lol!

My sis lives owns land on an island in Maine and we go their and to VT ( a bed and breakfast) and NH (Jellystone Park or white mountain area) on annual trips but
I think WL felt more like some midwestern place! :)
I don't think you can go wrong no matter where you stay it will be wonderful! :)

We own DVC at the Boardwalk Villas and it is nothing like New England. We are a world away when we go down. I don't even think about the traffic heading into Boston. EPCOT resorts are the best place to stay in my opinion.

I've stayed at both Dolphin, BWV & YC before I had kids and LOVED them-just can't beat the location. Then I took my first trip with my DD last year and stayed at the Poly. The others are really great hotels with great locations but the Poly has a true get away from it all resort feel-maybe because the YC/BC is too much like home? I think its actually because the Poly is more secluded. I'm sure I'll be back to the Epcot area once my kids are older.

I posted a thread on this exact subject a couple of years ago :p

I grew up in NJ and lived and spent many years at the NJ Shore, so I do feel that the "boardwalk" atmosphere wouldn't do much for me because of all the years spent vacationing at "real" boardwalks.

I now live in Massachusetts and while I LOVE the theming of the Yacht and Beach Clubs, I feel that I want something different when I go to WDW. As a moderate, we love CBR; as for deluxe, we love the Polynesian.

However, as our DSs get older, the location and activities at and near the Boardwalk and Y&B Clubs could be a big draw for us.

But going simply by theming of the resort itself, I love the idea of something different, so would vote for the Polynesian.

I think the familiarity of BWV to old-time AC is fun and charming. The Y&B also have a pleasant familiarity. But, all the Epcot area resorts have enough Florida and WDW to keep them feeling very much like you are on vacation. I agree with others here who say it's the WL that makes this New Englander feel like she hasn't left home. I appreciate the beauty of WL but I don't really care to stay there when I'm in Florida. I want to see beautiful flowers and palm trees....not pine trees.

As beautiful as the Beach Club is, it is not New England. Right now in New England, the trees are bright yellow and orange. Soon, the reason why I come to WDW will become evident - SNOW, SNOW, SNOW.

I'm a native New Englander-Worcester, MA area for 40 years. My initial reaction to YC/BC was exactly that-I had no interest in staying there because it reminded me too much of home. Now, my favorite resort is BCV, and I think it's the exact same reason-it makes me homesick for my summers on the Cape and trips to the Sundae School (B&C will have to do!). And yet, Buzz2001, we now live 20 mins from the Mexican border and have NO interest in CSR for exactly that reason. But I'd rather live in CT.

Can you stand hearing from yet ANOTHER Cape Codder? I guess we all love Disney. Well, the first time I saw the BC was this past April. Stormalong Bay was so crowded you could barely see the water. Reminded me of 4th of July on our Cape Cod beaches.
If you want to relax, choose another resort. This one is just as popular as Cape Cod on a hot summer's day.

Wow, who knew that there were so many of us from Cape Cod and Worcester?? Anyway...we have stayed at DxL, POR, Polynesian. Loved all of them. Last trip this past August, dh, who had previously not been a huge Disney fan, gave our phone number to DVC. They called us. Dh says..if we buy, we buy at an Epcot resort, preferably BWV. So, not being a stupid woman, that's exactly what I did!! We have spent half our lives on Cape Cod and don't feel like BWV's are too familier to us in that respect. We just love the thought that we can just hang out there and not go to the parks. There is just so darn much to do at the Epcot resorts, especially BWV.
