Just a general question has anyone out there been to New England or the Carolina's i had a brochure for cottages come through the post monday and i have to say it looks absolutely gorgeous and not that expensive for the house rentals. What airports would you fly to i am guessing boston but are there anymore from the uk?

Boston is the only main gateway to New England from here, although many tours start in Toronto (lots of cheap charter carriers) and work there way down into the states, if you've got the time, you can cover some really amazing scenerey on this route and for the Carolinas you can do Raleigh Durham or Charlotte direct or even interchange there for Beaufort, Asheville, Norfolk or Myrtle, depending really on which end of the carolinas you want to be.

Off there in about 6 weeks - flying into Boston, then driving to Killington ski resort which is in Vermont where we stay for a week, then back to Boston for a few nights.

Can't wait.

I'd love to visit New England in the fall, but skiing takes preference at the moment:cool1:

I see you live in the West Midlands like us. I am originally from Maine, and one other option you have for flying is to go Continental out of Birmingham to Newark and then fly into one of the small airports from there. (Like Portland, Maine or someplace in New Hampshire.)

To be honest, having done both ways quite a few times, what we do now is fly from London direct to Boston and then rent a car and drive to Maine from there. It's about 2 hours to Portland from Logan Airport.

I will say that I think the roads from Logan Airport are very confusing and it's easy to get lost. Plus people from Massachusetts have a reputation as some of the worst drivers in the world. We had a friend who spent part of his time in Athens, Greece and part in Boston each year and said driving in Boston was the worst. :)
