New DVCers @ SSR! Booking ?'s

We just passed ROFR, $83pp @ SSR. 120 pts available Dec '08.
A bit excited to say the least, I'd been waiting months to find a point package that met my budget, all of the small allocations were getting scooped up FAST!

Have a booking question. Our scenario is the following. Son's 3rd birthday (man time goes fast...) is Sept, 2008. We'd like to take him and the twins girls (currently 8 wks) to WDW and use our SSR points.

From what I can figure out, we can borrow against our Dec '08 points and book this in either Sept 2007 or Dec 2007, I'm not sure which. Can anyone shed some light on this?
We're planning on a 2 BR for 4 or 5 nights (can be all week nights).

Anything else I should know about our first SSR stay would be greatly appreciated as well!!

If you're in the system, you can book your Sept. '08 stay in October '07. You figure what would be the day you want to check out, and 11 months from that date, you call MS to book the entire stay. Yes, you'll be borrowing your December '08 points to do that. Once those points are borrowed, you will have to use them before December '08.

You can book 11 months before your stay at SSR (your home resort). If you want to stay in Sept of 2008, you can book in October of 2007 for your stay. Actually it is 11 months from your check in day, but I would wait until 11 months from your check out day. That way you can book your whole stay. It is 11 months from your check OUT day. So if the trip dates are, say, Sep 7 - 12 (with the 12th as the check-out day) the stay could be booked on Oct 12, 2007.

Actually, Bobbiwoz is correct....it's 11 months from your checkOUT day (for home resorts). If you check the DVC Member website, go under "My Membership" and then choose "Vacation Points". It will give you the current dates you can book at Home vs. Any DVC resorts.

No, you cannot reserve 11 months from your check in date. If you book day by day, the first day you can call is 11 months from the check OUT day of the first night of your stay.

Example: You want to book Sep 7 - 12, 2008 day by day. The first day you can call is Oct 8, 2007 to book the night of Sep 7th because the check out date for that night is, Sep 8th.

Whether you book the stay all at once or a day at a time, the rules are the same: you cannot call until 11 months from the check OUT date of the night/nights you are booking.

Ok great! Thanks for the welcome. We toured last April and were given the option to buy new with 160 pts @ 94/pp. Since we couldn't see using 160 pts with going every other year, we opted for resale.
Any tips we should know before going? We've only stayed at the value resorts for the past trips. We did notice that the bus lines were a lot shorter for going back to SSR then for Pop Century

We just got our closing paperwork today. Will be sending it back tomorrow so hopefully we can get all ready to book @ 11 months out.

Think SSR will be easy to get into in Sept 2008? That's a slow month for disney right?
Being DVC members we can't take advantage of free dining correct if offerred?

You are correct that we do not get Free Dining. Also, September is a slow month at WDW, both for DVC and CRO, so I'm sure you'll have no problem booking SSR for 9/08.

We might see you there! Just started the paper work this week on a small resale at SSR banana: ), my DH are hoping to go late next Sept 2008 for our 15 yr. Anniversary (even though its 10/3/08) with no kids !!!!!
