NEW DVC Owner In Process - December Availability Question

In the process of buying DVC at BWV - this is where I want to stay in the future. Knowing I won't get the points in my account until May(ish), what are my chances of getting a two-bedroom in anything that isn't OKW or SSR?

Seeing some of the posts on this board about availability, I am honestly worried I won't find a two-bedroom anywhere and I had promised my parents a trip next December (2021) -5 days/4 nights. I want it to be really special since we have been missing Disney since last January and this will be our first time back with our daughter who will finally be 3 and an infant's first time.

Well, I would put BWV at a near-zero probability of success given that all 2BRs there are lockoffs.

Poly is an absolute zero chance unless you want to spring for a bungalow. There are no traditional 2BR villas there.

My own experience trying to book VGF, as a VGF owner, has not been very successful this year. All 2BRs are tied up the first full week of December and continue to show limited availability further into the month.

Of the others, it’s really going to depend on when your points become available for your own use. The 7-month window for December opens on May 1st. Competition to book any non-home resorts beginning that day will look like the Cornucopia scene from the Hunger Games. You might be able to get a 2BR at AKV-Kidani,especially since you’re only trying to get 4 nights.

Even SSR is going to be tough depending on how flexible you are with actual dates.

I would not count on anything else and there is no sense in even anyone trying to give you an idea before hand...we don’t allow it anyway..because things change regularly.

All you can do is see what you can get when you have your points, book your home resort if you are more than 7 months out and go from there,

if you are willing to split stay, and you can book before the 7 month mark, then book it from the start as two different reservations, This way, you may be able to switch part of the stay and then between waitlists and stalking piece toge5er the rest,

Thank you for the replies. I know I can't change much now, but I guess for anxiety reasons and being new to the whole process I really wanted to get others input about that time frame

Maybe go ahead and tamper expectations - you will be booking really late for one of the hardest times to book. Tell your parents this - then proceed and be happy with SSR/OKW or try for a visit another time.

I would think early December is typically worse. The higher point costs in later December can make things a little better (but still very heavy demand.)

Book AoA now. You can always cancel it if you are successful in getting a 2BR using your DVC points.

If you have flexibility of which 4 days, you should not worry too much. While early and late December are tough, mid December has had lots of openings at the larger resorts AKV, OKW, SSR

I think December 2021 is going to book up very quickly this year due the Covid point glut issue because we are still in the trenches right now so people are planning their travel for the second half of 2021

If you are in the process of purchasing now, you should have your points by March, not May. It sounds like you are flexible with resorts and points, so that should help, but BW will be tough.

I know it’s not ideal, but you could rent the points to secure a 2BR now and then rent your points out when they arrive. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the responses. The Agent we are working with said we would have the points by May which is why I used that date. I am hoping since it went to ROFR today it will be sooner than that.

I might get AoA just in case, but I think my husband will kill me if we can't use these points after convincing him to finally buy into DVC this year. I know in the long run we are going to get a lot out of it as we typically plan way in advance, this is just such an unusual year.

Honestly, 7 months for the first two weeks of December is ALWAYS the Hunger Games. Nothing unusual there, unfortunately. For the first two weeks of December at BWV you might even typically want to walk for a 2BR or studio because of the demand and lock off issue, and definitely assume points for Pool/Garden, not Standard.
