New DVC Member

Hi there! I am a brand new DVC member at the Hilton Head resort. I bought into DVC on my trip to WDW last week,before I bought I hardly knew anything about DVC. I guess I got caught up in the moment , but the thought of all of the fun over the next 40 years made me so excited I could not refuse to buy in. I am very young (only 21 years old) and bought only 300 points.When I get older and start a family I will likely buy more points, but for now it will just be myself and my friends having a great time at WDW so I figured that is all the points that I need for now ( especially since I can take my friends or my parents and siblings and let them pay cash on the weekends and I can save on points, both sides are getting a heck of a deal.) After reading a few posts on your site I have become rather concerned about purchasing into Hilton Head instead of Beach Club. The sales guy told me that if I was not planning on coming to WDW at Easter or Christmas ( which I do not plan on doing at all) then it would be smarter for me to buy into Hilton Head because of the lower dues. Will I have trouble booking into the on site resorts with the 7 month window for the months of Febuary, September and November? These will be the months I will mostly likely vist in.Plus has there ever been any other types of incentives other the magical beingings? I decided not to use it because I did not want to lose all of my 2002 points and I thought it was kinda of crummy that there is not an incentive for people who do not need help coming up with a down payment.One last question about pool hopping? I know that Storm Along Bay is said to be off limits if you are not staying at the Beach Club, but let's just say you are staying at the boardwalk and you walk over to the Beach Club and there is hardly any one in SAB will you be granted permission to use it being a DVC member due to low capacity? I am just kinda of wondering.

To answer some of the Qs:
1) I think you will be okay for WDW stays as long as you can be flexible.
2)There have been other incentives in the past, such as park passes, but that is long gone.
3) I don't think they will allow you to use SAB.

PS- with 300 points you are doing very well for 21 years old!

I also have HH points that I bought a couple of years ago. Since buying them I have taken a number of friends and family each year to HH, VB, and OKW. So far we have gone to VB in Sept/Oct, WDW in January, and HH in April/May.
This coming January we will stay at BWV for the frst time. So far I have had no trouble booking WDW, even as close as 3 months out.

HH is a beautiful resort, which I also bought sight unseen. If I had known more ahead of time, I might have made a more thoughtful decision but I probably still would have chosen HH. When I did buy, my reasoning was that it was away from the world, a golfer's paradise, and a good point of departure for exploring the South. I also thought it might be a good place to trade. Last year April was so beautiful there that I came home and bought a small add-on.

And by the way...I second Maistre Gracey's comments about 300 points. That is not a small number....especially if you see yourself using studios for yourself and a couple of friends!

Congratulations! I think this is one impulsive decision you'll never grow to regret. You've got some great vacations ahead of you! HH is a beautiful resort.

I don't think you will have any trouble booking anywhere you want to go. We own at OKW and have stayed almost everywhere. Congrats and glad you have joined our "family". You won't regret it! My children are 24 and 28 and have had many years of Disney fun and plan on many more.

I think you'll be better off cancelling your membership. Then either buy at BCV or consider resale at OKW. Why complicate your life by buying at HH when you want to stay at WDW. True, you'll be able to get something most of the time but not all of the time and it might not be what you want. Besides, OKW has the lowest dues and will be cheaper resale than HH. Also, 300 points is a fair amount, are you sure you need that many? I would not buy for use years later, buy what you need and will use now.

WELCOME HOME!!!!! I'm 46 and have been going to WDW for 20 years my wife and I both have good jobs and we "just" found the cash to buy 150 pts at BCV's. Smart move to do it early before mortgages, kids, Ortho, bills. etc. You will have 40 yrs of great vacations and memories. Congratulations!!!!

Congatulations and welcome home. The best advice any can give is "buy where you intend to stay". If you are not using MB, please consider changing your home resort to BCV through Disney or a resale for the othe onsite resorts.

I second Rob&Jan's comment although I'm 37....and we only bought 150 points too at WLV.

I had to laugh about your comment regarding Magical Beginnings. When it was offered to me, this was the ONLY point my DBF and I could not agree on. I wanted the points, he wanted to sell ALL of them back. And we didn't need them for the down payment, we made that down payment anyway. He finally convinced me (grudgingly) to sell back 125 and keep only 25, but now in hindsight, I do wish I sold them all back, since we only would have banked them anyway, and at $10 per point that they offered us for MB it was well worth it.

How wonderful for you...You'll have wonderful vacations for the next 40 years which will make you...ummm....61 when DVC ends??? I think that makes you one of the youngest, if not the youngest DVC member on the DIS!

Congratulations on your decision to purchase DVC and welcome to DIS. I bought BCV this year too. In my opinion, if you are planning on staying at WDW you should consider changing your purchase to a WDW resort. Although I purchased directly from DVC I have looked at the resales and there are some good values out there for your money. You purchased a lot of points and could get more for your money through a resale at WDW.

This is just my opinion but as you get older, get married and have children you may want to spend more time at WDW, especially during school vacations and this may not be so easy to do since your home resort isn't at WDW. Good luck whatever you decide to do. Annmarie
