Im not sure if this is the right forum (mods feel free to move it).

So we just signed up yesterday right before we had to leave to catch our flight so it was kind a rushed dealing... and one I have mixed feelings over.

We have traveled to WDW 8 years in a row now usually staying in a moderate but have also stayed at AKL a couple times. We threw in a 3 night cruise this time.

We also travel quite a bit to other places, our last recent big trip was back packing through Europe last year. After thinking about the DVC thing, I came to conclusion that your very limited to staying at 'resorts' only, so to go to Europe wouldnt have worked for us the way we did it.

Can anyone explain the actual benefits of DVC, we were in and out in less than 1.5 hours yesterday morning so there wasnt much time for questions...

I kinda understand the staying in the WDW portion of it, it does make sense that you'll save some money, but it doesnt seem like a considerable amount unless you stay at a deluxe resort. I mean you still have to pay your annual dues which for us is close to $1000.00. so realistically your still paying a $1k to go on a trip.:confused3

I tried searching the forum for similar threads but didnt find anything, feel fre to post links.

Thanks in advance!

The biggest benefit that makes the most sense is to hafve a Disney trip at least once every year or every other year. If you don't see yourself doing that and staying in upgraded accommodations, then it might not be the best choice for you. That being said, I think DVC is possibly one of the best purchases we have ever made. We used to travel once a year, and now we tend to do 2-3 trips one year and then take 10-11 months off before doing another one. I say that as an indication of what DVC ownership can do to you! LOL! We have used our points once for an exchange to Hawaii, and while I thought that was a good value, I wouldn't do it every other year. I think the best value of DVC is to stay at Disney.

How much you “save” (I am not sure anyone really saves, but instead just enjoys longer stays, more frequent stays or stays at upgraded accommodations) depends on how you bought your points and how you use them.

I bought OKW points at $68/pt this year; I only stay with points on weekdays (do CRO on weekends). I am “cheap” and get the maximum value out of my points.

Like anywhere else you pay for maximums flexibility and convenience.

Whether and how much you “save” depends completely on how you use your points.

Good luck to you. We bought DVc because we felt it was a good value. We stay in a nice resort for a lot less.
