Dining discounts with the AP are mostly in the 10% range and are limited, e.g., most at Epcot are lunch only. You can review the AP dining discounts here:

DVC members can get dining discounts without an AP and the DVC discounts are actually somewhat better than AP, e.g., a number of those Epcot restaurants have 10% discounts at dinner for DVC members.
DVC members can purchase a discounted AP. For latest prices, go here

Both DVC members and AP holders can purchase the Tables In Wonderland discount card for $100 mentioned above which gives you 20% off both food and drink at most WDW buffet and table service restaurants.
Also, with either your DVC card or an AP, you can get 10% off the price of merchandise purchased at the WDW stores.
If you play golf, there is a discount with either the AP or the DVC card, the discount is currently the same but you can make DVC tee times up to 60 days out and AP only 14 days out (which if you are familiar with playing at the courses does not really make much difference)
The AP has discounts for rooms at regular Doisney hotels that DVC does not. Bottom line is that you really don't need the AP to get food or merchandise discounts if a DVC member and generally DVC members who buy APs do so because they will have enough park days in a year's time to make them the better ticket to buy.
