You were all of help on my trip. It was, after all, my first time. Virtual knowledge and input still counted for something. I think I would have been much more disoriented without the Disboards. I also made the decision between Dolphin with a teacher's discount and PO Riverside given the input of the "resort" chat rooms.

I have yet to finish unpacking as I'm starting up some workshops this week and my mother's coming to town from Chicago. After that, I hope to share my trip report on the boards. I'll let you know when it's completed.

everyone: I don't know you all, but it sounds like there's been some serious losses. It's nice to see that you take time out to care as you focus, too, on trips to WDW and Disneyland.

I am not usually the one to ask for PD and P, but my father just called me on the phone. My SIL (DB's wife) was out with her friends' last night after work in downtown Detroit. From the information I am getting, what is perceived as a good area and known entertainment spot. THey were robbed while walking down the street... gave the guys everything- jewelry, money, purses. The men turned away and they thought they were in the clear, then he fired off a shotgun into my SIL's leg. All I know is that she has had her fourth surgery today. I don't know the distance the gun was, or if anyone else was injured. I do know they have no suspects, except for a local gang that has "shoot a person" as initiation. I guess the other gang has "kill a person". I am not sure why SIL was down there, but I do know she works in that area. DB and her live in West Bloomfield which is north of Detroit (then I am in the sticks way north of them). I am rambling, sorry. I work in the inner city of Flint (by choice) and I just don't get it. I don't think I ever will. I wonder every day whether I am doing the right thing or helping someone NOT fall into the same routine as aroud them, then I get a call like this.

I am cutting/pasting cross referencing to the concierge thread. Please put my brother and my SIL in your prayers.

Thank you,
Debbie

It's so hard to understand the mentality of these gangs shooting each other and innocent people! I'm so sorry and send PD and P's to you, your DB and DSIL.

Sending a big hug to ZW and family.

Debbie- I am so sorry, what a terrible thing to have happen. Unfortunately I am not surprised, I see pregnant women coming in all the time with gun shot wounds- there is no conscience. I hate to say it, but we avoid the downtown area all together due to the instability. I will pray for your brother and SIL, and all of us having to live with the violence of this world.:( Kim

 Hi, all - I'm back! I was absent due to professional aggravations demanding too much of my energies.

First things first -
 :wizard:to ZW and family. I am so sorry for the pain and suffering you all are experiencing.

#1HM~ P and PD to you. I often wonder what our society is coming to you when a certain percentage of our young people are so aberrant! How can we survive as a civilized society? I love the Legend of King Arthur where he supposedly retreated to a cave because his world could not become civilized. He vowed to come out when the country was civilized. He hasn't reappeared to my knowledge! :p

KIS~I am so happy your trip turned out just as we all hoped it would for you. I am sold on the S/D and appreciate the teacher rate which I hope they keep and not keep raising it. The Conventions must help them maintain this perk.

DF~thanks for brightening my day with pics from S/D and DL.

DF - That tray with the goodies & the strawberries - is that something we can order for room service? (It would probably cost more than my room for the night!!! :p )

Room Service delivered it..but it was a "gift" from a very special person. :lovestruc It was so "scrumptious" and a true indulgence after a long day in the parks! ::yes::

KIS~I'm looking forward to reading your TRIP report. ;) We love POR (oak Manor) and spent many visits there when DD was younger! She adored the place, and all it had to offer. Actually...we all did. :goodvibes

Debbie..~absolutely HORRIFIC to think a person's life is threatened because of a "Gang Initiation/Ritual." What a sad affair, and disheartening sign of the times in which we all live.
:( Just a week ago, a uniformed officer (CHP) was gunned down in front of a courthouse in LA for the same reason. The kid, a GANG member, wanted the "bragging" right for killing a cop. This officer had a bullet-proof vest on, and was appearing in court to defend some traffic tickets he wrote (routine). He was shot twice in the vest, and once in the head. Unthinkable. My thoughts and prayers are with your DSIL and her family.

Mouseteacher~Soon...summer will be upon us. "Professional aggravations" will be a thing of the past. Life will progress, and we will sit poolside at the DOLPHIN & SWAN resorts contemplating the location of one of my favorite literary legends...KING ARTHUR, and maybe even Jimmy Hoffa and Amelia A.! :tilt: :hyper2: :drinking1 All this "riff-raff" will be a distant memory!

*Keep all your fingers crossed (toes too) that tomorrow is the day DISNEY announces the MAGIC coming to our California port in the spring of 2005! They are holding a press-conference on the GRAND OPENING (officially...although we rode it this past weekend) of their newest attraction: ToT! I'm foaming at the mouth to secure the ressies...and make some excursion selections~!

Bumping for all to enjoy your thread! Although I rarely post, I do enjoy reading your posts daily.

Prayers and best wishes go out to all of you who need it the most right now.

Pixie dust to you to debbie.

Someone take care of all these guys while I am gone for a few days. They could use a guardian angel!!! (And cross your fingers we get there and back safely - lots of road construction already!!)

Hello, Disney Poly! Thanks for stopping in! Please post more often! You are welcome!

jgates~ we'll do our best! Safe journey!

#1 Hockeymom ... Prayers and PD to you and your SIL & family. :( :grouphug: It makes me sick to hera about somethinglike that. I hope your SIL recovers quickly.

Can soemone give me the link to the concierge thread please?

Pixie dust and prayers to you Debbie and your family...

I can't wait to ride the new attactions at WDW! When we fianlly get there it looks like there will be a new atttaction at each of the 4 parks! :) I have thought about trying to go the first week of Jun2005 but I am worried about the heat for DD and the crowds for everyone else :) Does anyone know when they release teaches/governement rates for 2005?

KIS - I look forward to your report!

MomPoppins - from what I have read on the boards, I don't think the first week of June is that bad crowd wise as long as you avoid MK on Saturday. The heat/humidity though might be rough.

ZW - so sorry to hear of your recent losses. Hugs, prayers and peace to you and your family.

HM - prayers on the way for your sil as well. It is just senseless.....and the "what if's" will certainly play over in her mind and the minds of your family for quite some time.

This is the time of year my DH and I usually go to WDW (last week of May and/or first week of June). I think it's a great time of year to go. First, the special evening events, like second run of parade at MK etc. are usually going as it is after Memorial Day. The crowds are very light and managable, but I do agree that MK is to be avoided on Sat and Mon too imho. The weather during our visits has ranged from pleasant to hot/humid, but nothing like the oppressive heat/humidity we have experienced when we would go later in the summer (july or august). Frankly, it was just too much for us when simply stepping outside felt like someone had placed a brick on your chest. We get up very early and go to one of the parks in the morning and then back to the Dolphin for lunch, swim, and nap. We miss the worst heat of the day happily playing at the hotel. I would also like to know when the teachers rates will likely be available for booking as we are going in late May 2005.:bounce:

Thank you for all of your kind words and prayers. I can't tell you enough how much it means to me, even if we are only linked cyberly! SIL is still in the hospital. I don't have an update past this morning, and that was more surgery. Her mental wounds will be as bad as her physical. She was a very beautiful woman, who will quite likely never walk again on her own two legs. My brother is a mess right now, and we are trying to keep him calm so he doesn't go over the deep end.

Thank you again for all of your very kind words and prayers!:grouphug:

I wasn't going to make "the call" today, then decided I couldn't afford NOT to make it. I have Poly GV and Poly GVC (obviously will need to drop one of those!) reserved right now for the second half of our S/D reunion! I will be going to Brady land with my kids! I keep on telling myself the glass is half full, the glass is half full, the glass is half full!

Thank you again,
Debbie

Debbie ~ Thoughts and prayers for you and your family... I hope you hear some good news about SIL soon :)

Well... I am seriously thinking I can plan a surprise trip for next May 2005 :) We are going to Point Clear Alabama to the "Grand Hotel and Resort by Marriott" at the end of May 2005. I have started a plan to take the family on over the WDW for a week as well. I will tell DH to take 2 weeks off and tell him the real plans after we leave! I am hoping this works out for us :) I will be getting annual passes and still go on our 2 week vacation in March 2006 and maybe Christmas break ( I love WDW at Christmas time) .. thanks for listening... now I need those ressies for 2005!!!! I really thought the first week of June would be crowded, but I guess some schools are still in session. We get out here on May 26th. so we could be there on May 28 or 29th... so actually it would be the last week of May... now where is the pixie dust... I really think I am going to need it this time!

I just found this on allearsnet.com

"As Disneyland prepares to mark its 50th anniversary, Walt Disney World officials today announced plans to join in "The Happiest Celebration on Earth" beginning next May and they showcased events and new features in store for the current summer season in the Florida Vacation Kingdom.

During "The Happiest Celebration on Earth," which begins May 5, 2005, each of the four Walt Disney World theme parks will feature a blockbuster attraction imported from around the globe -- plus a unique new attraction will be created just for the Florida resort."

That settles it, I am in for May 2005 now to adjust that timer! :)
Does anyone know if they will be changing the parades to new ones during this time also?

:hyper: :wave2: Waving to the room
