New Disneyland Timeshare

There's nothing wrong with California Adventure that Rockin' Roller Coaster and Philharmagic wouldn't fix.
I agree that the park can be fixed. But it will take more than two transplanted attractions. It's my opinion that a transplanted roller coaster (with a huge footprint for the space-challenged park) and a third 3-D movie would not be enough to fix California Adventure.

The park needs a complete redesign that takes guests to other places and times. How about a new entrance, instead of the current "giant postcard" entrance that's devoid of any charm? How about an entrance plaza that captures an earlier era instead the current themeless mish-mash? How about a Hollywood section that provides a cohesive fantasy of being in Hollywood in the 1930s, rather than the current disjointed mess that can't decide whether it's a street, a studio, or a series of modern pavilions? You get the idea.

To get back on topic, the problems of the second theme park should not be a factor in whether or not Disney Vacation Development ever builds a DVC resort in Anaheim. The only factor might be that if Disney uses their experience with California Adventure to eliminate the possibility a third theme park permanently, then the 80-acre third park site becomes available for other uses. However, that site is comparatively far away from the park entrances, Downtown Disney, and the hotel restaurants. One of the surface parking lots near the current Disneyland Resort hotels would be a better location for a DVC resort. Disney would just have to build another parking structure to replace the lost parking capacity.

I like your Retro Hollywood idea but disagree that the park has no space to grow. With an adjacent and expendable parking lot, the Disney Imagineers have enough room to eventually expand California Adventure into almost anything they wish. You can bet Rockin' Roller is on their agenda.

I also agree that three 3D movies would be too much. That's why the logical solution would be to take the under-performing Muppet's 3D and switch it to Philharmagic.

Short of the theme, if you stack it up against the Disney MGM Studios park, attraction for attraction, I think DCA comes out ahead or equal. Now I know the lack of cohesive theme is a deal breaker for some but to me, California Adventure is not a smashing success, it's not a tremendous failure, it's just another Disney park that will eventually find it's niche.

For me the difference is that I think of WDW as a "total package", meaning I look forward to each of the parks and wouldn't consider not going to one of them. With DLR, I only think of DL...meaning I want to make sure I allow enough time to get through the entire park, and will then enter California Adventure if there's anytime left over. It's not that I don't enjoy it, it's just that I could easily do without it. Come on Disney Imagineers -- let's throw something in the mix that will change my mind!
