New Disney World Restaurant to Feature Beauty of a Concept

But, generally speaking, does it also include robot candlesticks and girls doing cosplay? It's Magic Kingdom, this will be "elegant dining" like the Jungle Cruise is an "adventure."
You must be thinking of the Japan Pavillion...

Don't you just love how WDW redefines everything? Liberty Tree Tavern is a dry tavern; concierge level is now called club level to more accurately describe its offerings (or lack thereof); fine, full-service dining will not include the option of alcohol. You've got to hand it to WDW, they march to the beat of their own drummer, but I still get a kick out of all of it. I'll bet ADRs will fill-up as fast as that Castle:sad2:

So, I was curious...never having seen a definition beyond opinion here of what "full service dining" is, I googled.

Out of the first page of results, only two actually provided definitions:

A full service restaurant is an establishment in which customers can be served their meal at the table, recieve waitress services, and typically pay at the end of the meal.

That offers fine dining with a wide selection of foods and beverages, and table service. It may also have attached coffee shop and specialized (ethnic) and fast food restaurants.

And this pretty much is in line with what I thought - it has nothing to do with alcohol itself, but more the manner of service, and is just another way to say what we usually say in Ye DIS parlance, "table service", and is in opposition to the "counter service", "quick service", or "self service" (a buffet would qualify for the latter).

Everyone is entitled to their own definitions - doesn't mean they will be understood by others though :)

Now, "fine dining" or "elegant dining" could better be disputed perhaps.

Now, Gaston was an ale drinker, so if it were properly themed, we should be able to get ale in flagons...

A large part of Disney World dining is the experience of the restaurant itself. People generally don't eat at the 50's Prime Time Cafe because its 'fine dining' (though Disney full-service restaurants can excel, at least when quality isn't compromised). Nor, as pointed out, do they visit Liberty Tree Tavern for booze with their meal.

In addition to actual dining, these venues all attract diners for the experience - the 'theme' - of dining there. The new restaurant in Fantasyland will be no different, but with the key exception that you don't have to experience it as a 'table-service' establishment. With the general decline in Disney dining quality anyway (with the dining plan partially to blame), are people perhaps more likely to opt to experience this restaurant for a counter-service lunch rather than the (more expensive) table-service dinner? Indeed, why pay inflated prices for a dinner of mediocre quality when I can get a similar (perhaps 'lite') experience there for lunch instead?

Perhaps I'm off base here, and certainly the execution of this concept is both critical and remains to be seen. I'm also anxious to see how they'll pull it off, but if its little more than covering/disguising the cash registers and adding waitresses and tablecloths at dinner, I'll be unimpressed. It needs to be a rather different experience between lunch and dinner.

I'm with you. My expectations based on Disney past is hoping that they (current mgmt) are realizing that maximizing profit doesn't have to be at the expense of quality or imaginative ideas...I, too, may be hoping for too much but I can see this being implemented beautifully by old school Disney.

I may be a Disney crumudgeon but I still have Disney hope.

There are certainly decorative and even functional ways that they can hide register stations, etc. - assuming they have them - there is no law that says a counter service is required to have island registers and two lines per, etc.

Would it take away from the experience to know that the row of decorative planters actually cover register stations? It may be an oddly used area though...

It will be more interesting as to how they turn over the place between seatings from the chaotic mess of a CS dining room into "elegance"...

Wikipedia defines the term "full service" as it relates to a number of different industries. For restaurants, it only means table service, not alcohol. Of course anyone can contribute to Wikipedia so if someone wants to add that it generally means some alcoholic beverages are available, go for it!

i wonder if the stalls will be possible hidden in a hallway. as to not be incorperated into the actuall dinning hall. Think carribian beach shutters resturant. if you never saw the hallway you would not know it was quick service during the day

I think that disney will work a lot of dual tier dining into the parks as rehabs and expansions go on. With the increasing use of the DDP more people are using CS at lunch and TS at dinner. It only makes sense that they will need this flexibility in the dining rooms and kitchens.

PS. A fine resturaunt has a wine or cocktail list usually. It's not so fine when they have only water and 5 types of soda. That's great for kids but not somewhere for a nice date wether you partake in the alchohol or not.

With things that roll away... tuck into something else.. you name.. I can think of a LOT of ways this idea could work.

As numerous others have said.. the execution will be critical. I would say if anyone has a chance of pulling this off halfway decent - I'd say Disney is that organization.

We'll see.

I wonder if this resturaunt will have charaters in the dinner dining room? It seems that people would like to see belle, and probably the beast and dining in the castle with Cinderalla is very popular already.

cool ! I found the debate board LOL, I've missed that!
This reminds me of the purist me always referring to the "motels" on Harbor blvd at DL, even though every marketing material calls them "good neighbor Hotels". Sorry to be a Hotel you need interior corridors and not be situated around a parking lot!

back to your normal programming................

Judy:
To be a good nieghbor hotel you have to partner with Disney not just be on Harbor dr. ;)

The point was that most of these are not truly "hotels" but rather "motels" being advertised as a "hotels".

I wonder if the new resturaunt will be themed like one on the cuirse ships. Not Lumiere's but the Animator's Pallete. While being more plain during the day. It could change the ambience of the dining room quite a bit for the dinners.

Never been. How do they work that (the difference between lunch and dinner)?
