We recently returned from 8 days at POFQ and on one of our trips to DTD on the boat, the pilot stated that Disney is planning another park. This one would be mostly thrill rides and be themed to Disney Villians. Any truth to this?

I don't know, but I hope it is true! I can't wait! :Pinkbounc

Last I heard they had discussed a Villians park to compete with Islands of adventure shortly after opening AK (I'd read it in a magazine) and I asked a CM while I was there. The CM confirmed it had been very quickly considered but the innitial marketing tests showed that response was pretty negative because people thought it would be too scary for little kids, so it never even hit concept stage really.

Now, see, I think this is JUST the thing teenage boys would love. LOL! My sons, even at 19 and 17 years old, absolutely love the Disney villains. Those are the only Disney T-shirts they ever want to get, too. I think there would be a market for the Villain Theme Park. Me -- I'd be too scared to go, but I'm sure my DH and sons would be there on opening day. :)

I have heard this rumour for years. I even heard they were going to use the cave of wonders from Aladdin as the central icon..and put a roller coaster in it. I think a disney Villian park would be wonderful..I don't do thrill rides BUt the villian are highly marketable and would give the tweens and older something at disney.

Oh, I know I definitely would be too. :) I can see where the marketing test results would come from though . . . say you're planning a trip with a 5 year old and a 14 year old, and there was a park that the older child DEFINITELY wanted to see but the younger one wouldn't even set foot in, but you don't want to split up the family. What would you do?

I think this would be a bad move on Disney's part at this point in time. All four parks need work as it is. Epcot and Ak still need a few big attractions. It couldn't hurt to add some to MGM and even MK needs work.. Tommorowland is falling apart. I think Disney should improve upon what it has and worry about another park when they really need to expand. Although Disney has plenty of room to expand I dont think they will be for quite some time.

indeed I have also heard the rumor for several years now. I would love it, dont understand the idea that it wouldnt be marketable, given that the rides that have the longest lines in all the parks tend to be the 'thrill' rides, it would seem like a no-brainer, as long as they can keep the entire park up to disney's high standards

:thumbsup2 That would be great.. They were saying on one of the Disney Specials that they had alot more planned w/ all the land that they had but that was an older episode and I dont remember seeing EE on it. I think it would be wonderful.

If so Disney might put the others out of business. They will have it all.

Nope -- not going to happen anytime soon -- in the past, Disney has created a new WDW park every 10 years or so...

MK in 1971, Epcot early 1980s, MGM going into the 90s and AK going into the new millenium. However, there are no plans for anything at the end of this decade. Disney came out with a statement about 8 months ago stating that no new parks in FL were being considered and instead, the focus was on improving their current assets (esp AK).

With the unsurity of tourism, the fact that AK was never completed, that MGM needs to develop, that both AK and Disney Paris are taking longer than expected to make money, that a new park would more likely cannibalize the other parks than bring new guests, and that Islands of Adventure did not do nearly as well as expected all lead to a very slim chance of a new thrill park anytime soon.

I've read in other posts that Toontown put a stop to its Disney villains "meet and greet" because they frightened too many kids. I can't see the Mouse betting a half a billion dollars -- probably what it costs to get a new park off the ground -- on a concept that's been less than successful on a much smaller level.

And probably even more than that, if you consider that both MS and EE cost over $100 million alone.

I think a park of all thrill rides would be the opposite of Walt's philosphy. He wanted a place where parents could go and have fun with their children. A park of all thrill rides would only be fun to some parents (those who like thrill rides) and teenagers or very adventurous children. Little children would be completely left out.

Our disney bus driver had mentioned a new park too!

Disney bus drivers are notorious for starting rumors. This has been circulating for years now. It just doesn't make sense and I don't think it will ever materialize. If I want thrill rides with no "Magic" or nostalgia then I will head over to IOA.

Expand that to read "Disney Transportation Employees" :lmao: I've heard more tall tales from bus drivers, monorail drivers and boat captains over the years, and very few prove to be true....
