Today my family and I went over to the Roosevelt Field Mall to see the new Disney Store. When we first got there, about (11:15 am) we had to wait in line to get into the store. The wait was about 15 minutes, wasn't bad. The cm's in the line were handing out stickers, talking to people, ect.. They had already given away all the ears prior to us getting there. They had 500 ears to give away. That was OK by me as when we went for the DVC grand opening last fall they gave us so many ears, so I didn't near any more.

The store itself is in a different location that the previous Disney Store. For those of you who may have been there, the old DS was a corner store, but that is now some kind of a gadget store, and the new store is the next store on the right hand side.

When we first walked in, it was nice, but I thought it was small. Maybe because there were a lot of people in the store, I'm not sure.. The first thing you see on your left is the walk in castle with the magic mirror at the exit. You can wave any of the princess wands in front of the mirror and the mirror comes to life with a story of the corresponding princess. All the cm's were very nice, talking, helping out, ect. It was very nice, but, I think I was expecting........more. After we left the store we got into another line to meet Mickey/Minnie. Mickey and Minnie were rotating on the 1/2 hour, so when it was our turn, Minnie was there. I was surprised at how many people on the line when asked if they'd ever taken their kids to WDW said "no".... It really hit home how lucky we are to have gone many times, and continue to go.

Here are a few pics

Awesome! Thanks for the pics!

Do you think it's worth a drive from the Bronx with the kids to check it out?

Great pics! The store looks nice. I wish they would do ours, but it's not on the list I don't think. Did they have adult stuff? More collectibles? I see they have Vinylmation figures (I just don't get those things) I still go to my Disney store quite a bit, but I still really miss the great collectibles and nice adult clothes they used to carry. :guilty:

I'm not sure if it's worth the drive out just to go to the store. Maybe if you were going to be in Queens, I could see taking a detour over to the mall - or if you were going to purchase something specific.

Honestly there were so many people in the store I really didn't get to see much merchandise. I know they had adult t-shirts and such. I am going to go back when it's calmed down a bit to really see what they have in terms of collectibles and adult offerings. I have to admit, I think the store is too small - I think I was expecting "World of Disney" and that is why I wasn't "wow'ed".

Thanks. While I may not be able to hold myself back fro coming to LI, I'll wait for the Times Square store to open before I take a family trip.
:thumbsup2

I totally miss our Disney Store in Westchester. I order clothes for my kids online regularly (high quality, low prices). My parents live on LI but not very close to Roosevelt Field. Maybe we'll wait for the big Times Square store, too....

The closest one we have seems to be the one at the Palisade Mall in Nyack, NY, and I don't know if or when the conversion will happen there.

Thanks for Sharing this, it is muchly appricated :D Jamie

Hey Andrea. Nice photos.

From your shots, it looks like they are doing the "minor mall" stores in all the same design, as your store is the same layout and decor as the first one opened, the Montebello, CA store that I reviewed for the blog.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Santa Monica store that I will be attending the media event for this Friday. Supposedly, some of the bigger stores will be having a design theme that is more in tune to the locale, such as the long awaited Times Square store. Keep watching the blog and listening on the show, because I may have some sneek previews of that NYC store....:rolleyes1

Hey Nancy! The stores do look identical - execpt your photos have much less people in them!

Since the old World of Disney store in NYC did have a lot of "NYC" themed items, I would assume that the new one opening will have some as well. We are planning to go to the Times Square store when it opens in the fall.

thanks for sharing Andrea, looks like fun! it does look smaller than i expected.

they are opening up one in Dallas again at Northpark mall, which is higher end shopping than other area malls (other than the galleria), but only 15 minutes from me! Can't wait to check it out.

we do still have a disney outlet store i spend way too much money in! :rotfl:
