?NEW DISNEY RESORT? What name, theme?

First, please leave *my* Contemporary resort alone! ;) I like it just the way it is! It could use a bit of "sprucing up" every once in a while like all resorts. But I like the orginal concept and design. It is the one place at WDW that truely reminds me of *Walt*. :teeth:

Now, as for a new resort. I'd like to see a small (maybe 200-300 rooms) resort that is all suite. Every "room" to have a bedroom, sitting room, fridge, microwave, coffee maker & toaster, plus a split bathroom (like on the cruise ship). (Tub/shower sink in one room, toilet sink in another.) Better yet, all rooms to have a spa tub & seperate shower.

This resort should have little minivans to "cart" the quests around at will. You need a ride, you just call a special # from a house phone or your cell phone.

I'm thinking Ritz type service/atmosphere.

Yes, it'd have to be expensive, but I'll bet there are lots of people who'd spludge. :teeth:

How about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

There would be 7 room wings named after each dwarf around a central "Snow White" area.

Although I personally would rather watch paint dry than follow a televised race, that is a personal preference and not in any way a reflection on the people who follow that sport - and there are people who feel the same way about watching golf, which I thoroughly enjoy for some odd reason. As Disney has not only added a "Driving Experience" selection to its offerings, but beefed up the "Indy" presence in the park by renaming the Race Car attraction in Tomorrowland, it would seem that they are not too bothered with the idea of "rednecks" being attracted to the parks.

Thanks everyone for your creative ideas to my original post. I have really enjoyed reading them. KEEP THEM COMING.

I agree with many of you that Disney needs to recognize the needs of families with 5 or more. The suites idea is one that Disney should really consider.

My favorites so far are...

Pirates theme
Classic Mickey and Minnie theme
Under the Sea theme
Castle and Princess theme--although DH and DS might want to stay somewhere else!
Venice theme

fishy_mouse--Snow White is my favorite Disney movie. I love your idea--how about seven smaller cottage looking buildings and one Snow White Castle building? OR...to recognize the needs of larger families some more cottages like the Ft. Wilderness cabins with a Snow White and woodsy theme? There could be an awesome playground for kids based on the Dwarf's mine.

This is fun!

Also, Thanks everyone for your comments about the "post gone bad" poster.

KEEP THE IDEAS COMING!

I love the idea of the snow themed hotel...it would be a great tie-in with Blizzard Beach :) Although truthfully I can't wait to get out of the white stuff! :rotfl:
The idea of a hotel with suites would make a killing too, I bet :)
I would personally like to see a pet-friendly Disney hotel...maybe themed with Lady and the Tramp, Pluto, Abu, Figaro...all of the famous Disney pets :)

Originally I was going to say Princess theme, but I think the Under the sea theme would be great. You could have a Pirate section and a Mermaid section so there would be something for both boys and girls. I think they should have more rooms that fit five (along with POR). I'd make them more pricey than moderates, but less than deluxes and go with two double beds and a pull out.

The nascar thing sounds really dumb to me. Disney has magic and "themed"resorts. Disney doesnt own nascar. I really doubt it if they want a bunch of redneck hicks and race fans running around. Disney is there to please kids and familes, NOT just fathers. Go to race cities if you want to see nascar, go to disney if you want to see Mickey!

OUCH, someone sounds angry. I know alot of NASCAR fans who would never be so rude in responding to a friendly post. Shame on you. :(

Now I'd like to respond to the op's question, I love so many of the ideas people have already posted. House of Mouse, characters and an Atlantis type. Really good ideas here. Disney could add to All Star Sports with a NASCAR theme. DH and I would love to stay there.

I think the Vegas hotel themes might not be picked up in Disney unfortunately (such as Pirate--Treasure Island, Greek- Caeser's, Venice-the Venetian, Castle- Excalibur). Just seems like the themes are usually totally new concepts, like Yacht and Beach club or AKL or GF. (I guess there IS Poly and Tropicana, but I can't remember which one was there first).

I was trying to think of more ideas that have never been used anywhere...
like the elegant space concept...and I was thinking of a theme that's after the Disney's patriot theme, with Disney's characterizations of Johnny Appleseed, Icabod Crane, Sleepy Hollow, Babe the Blue Ox, colonial Mickey and Minnie and the Golden Horseshoe type stuff... My son has the DVD American legends that kind of combines American patriot w/ Disney and it seems like that goes in with the Liberty Belle section of WDW. I would LOVE a sleepy hollow section :). I guess I'm thinking of a Disney American legends moderate. You could even feature some mark twain type aspects.

Ladyhawke10 - I love your idea. Disney is as American as Apple Pie, why not have a resort themed that way.

The idea of "Under the Sea" is amazing as it can be themed to both boys and girls as was posted. Ariel, Nemo etc would suit all concerned.

missiowa - I'm from New York and I'm a NASCAR fan. Am I a redneck too? Just had to get that off my chest.....

I would love to see a "Villians" resort. Both my DS and DD would love to stay at a resort themed to the Disney Villians as they are some of their favorite characters in the movies. I would book a room in a heart beat.

Keep up with great ideas. This has been a wonderful thread to read.

Bump with the Villains theme. Pirates of the Carribbean ????

While I love the princesses having a DD and a Dniece (and a sister named Denise, ha, ha) I have 3 dnephews who I know would like a villain theme or the pirate theme

Rednecks live everywhere, not just the South. It has nothing to do with where you are from, but how you behave. I would personally spend my time around NASCAR loving, friendly, inclusive people than those that would speak badly of folks they don't even know.

:thewave: :thewave:

I think that's a fab idea. The Atlantis resort in the Bahamas looks amazing and something like this at Disney would be awesome!

I really like the Americana idea. The state-themed pool idea rocks!!

I also like the Mickey-Minnie or other character theme idea. They could call it 'Inn Character'!!

PS - Oogety, boogety, boogety! Let's go racing, boys!!
--An F1 fan for life, a Nascar fan for Daytona! :cool1:

I like the "House of Mouse" theme...maybe individual family cottages {1-2 br with sleeper sofas (Not the "Killer" ones, I hope!)} , that could house 5-7 people.
The checkin/restaurant, etc building would of course be a replica of "The House of Mouse". Of course, all the cottages would be completely and totally done up in Mickey and/or the Fab Five. Curtains to carpets to mirrors, to the design of the fridge and microwaves that will come standard in all these moderate-level rooms.

......but they could incorporate racing into ASSp

Yes, do watch the critism of others ideas. No one comes here to be called names or have their ideas critised. Lets watch it ok????

What about the Richard Petty Driving Experience? Sounds like Disney would not only be interested in courting Nascar fans, but they've already done it!

Silly!

I love these ideas - especially the castle-themed resort; really surprised Disney hasn't done something like this. It really shouldn't be because of the Cinderella/Snow White's castle in the parks as there are so many different type of castles/palaces in the world. There was a thread on this a little bit ago (I'll try to find the link), but really thought Disney could do a castle/palace-themed resort with each "building" a castle or palace from a no. of different countries - e.g., a Scottish-baronial castle, French Versailles, Venetian Doge's Palace (if Venice isn't going to be built as a separate resort), Russia's Winter Palace, Roman villa, Japan's Royal palace, Thai Royal Palace, etc. It would be easy to come up with a dozen different palace/castle styles for this resort.

Won't get into the NASCAR image debate, but did you ever think some posters might be only about 10-years old? I think it would be neat to have a resort (probably value) based on speed and those types of sport - have a building dedicated to NASCAR, another to jet planes, and another to powerboat racing. Could call it the Land of Speed, or something like that, and somehow incorporate the Disney speedway into it (has anybody actually used and/or visited that over the years?).

I would love to see an Americana/Colonial-type moderate resort. Think the building for each state might be difficult as homes in each state aren't that really particular anymore. And if you're thinking "traditional" regional homes, you could run into severe political-correctness run amok (note, not every Alaskan lives in an igloo, never has, never will). I think sticking with "colonial" might be the easiest conceptually to define...we already have enough southwest/spanish-mexican-caribbena/beach resorts at Disney in my opinion.

The Atlantis/underwater concept would be cool as well. We could take the Nautilus shuttle to our rooms (maybe redo the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride for this resort).

On the land point between the TTC and the water bridge, would be neat to have a large lighthouse resort. Maybe redo the ancient Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria into a hotel (would tower about twice the height of the Contemporary).

Great thouhts and ideas! Always fun to dream!!

I LOVE that idea! I'd stay at a patriot themed resort in a heartbeat!
