New Disney Company Stock Certificates

The Walt Disney Company is now offering its shareholders to purchase a commemorative stock certificate (which has no real value) for only $50.00. While I think the new certificate is cute, it's WAY too expensive for a piece of paper.

I was fortunate enough to get one of the old style certificates when they were free.

Here's the link if you own shares and want to purchase yours.

I agree with you. It's pretty sleazy to charge for the stock certificate. They're already using your money to run the company - the least they can do is give you the stock certificate for free. If they're going to charge you for a commemorative certificate, it shouldn't cost $50 - maybe $10.

Agree - charging for the certificate - NOT cool! Glad I have mine (as you said) from when they were "free".

Sounds like it may be time to sell my shares -the last couple years have been real good! Why, is it tacky to accept a $5-10M dollar bonus then ask your shareholders to pay for a stock certificate? OMG ...I can't stop laughing!

If you buy stock now, won't they send you one of the traditional certificates? Or are the going strictly book entry for new shareholders?
If they are going to charge for something, I'd rather get a shareholder card good for some decent discounts on cruises and in park dining/merchandise.

If you bought a few years ago you wouldn't need the discounts -you could have paid for all the vacations you wanted with the profits from the increase in value!

Stock certificates are a thing of the past. They are all digital now.

Shareholder benefits do not exist with Disney.

Other than dividends, you only profit if you sell the shares. Disney's dividends are not very generous.

I am actually glad they brought this back even for a price. We love to buy our nieces and nephews a share in Disney stock the day they are born. Paper stocks are a thing of the past so you are paying extra for the printing and stuff. $50 is extreme but we give them as gifts so would probably do it.

Must be a fairly recent change, as I was issued a stock certificate when I had the shares transferred to my name only after my Mom (who was a joint tenant) passed away just over 3 years ago. It's in my safe deposit box.
