New Disappointment at BC

Anyone else get a POOL room at BC that has BLINDS that allow the pool lights (which are on ALL night) to shine around the sides and light-up the room. A curtain that pulled to the side would have been much better IMO.

I didn't say anything after I got to the room because I had already asked them to change our room when we arrived and found that I had ONCE AGAIN been given a patio after asking for a large balcony, and requesting it online, maybe 4 times.

I think it was our last chance with BC. Every GV room we have had at BWI was better than the POOL/lagoon one I paid $30 a night extra for at Beach Club.

Requesting something 4 times is still just a request. You know that does not mean you will get what you asked for. Doing it 4 or 10 times does not mean anything more then doing it once.

The blinds issue though does sound annoying. There should be a blackout shade and not having one, would be an impact on your sleep

Balconies at BC have always been an issue. I'm sure it was a design/aesthetic issue originally but it's a major oversight IMHO. For what you pay for a room there, a balcony should be a given.

That said, YC has balconies on almost all the rooms, so if it's a big deal but you want to stay in that area and access SAB, that's a viable alternative.

If they had had a room with a balcony available, they would have given it to you. As PP's have said, you can request something numerous times, but if they don't have it, they can't give it to you. We encountered this with a room at CCV last year when I requested to be away from the main pool and both rooms offered to us were overlooking the main pool - it's all they had and there was nothing that could be done.

That being said, those blinds sound awful and a really bad design choice. I know it's a pain in the rear, but I would go back to the front desk and let them know. If you are willing to move, they will probably try to find something else for you (if a more preferred room has become available).

There WAS a balcony room available, that's the POOL room they switched us to. I was just disappointed that after getting stuck with a patio last time and (large balcony) being my 1st online request and also having it noted/rechecked on my reservation, I was still assigned a patio.

I don't think BC is a good fit for us. We NEVER do the pools when we go to Disney. We have beautiful beaches/pools here in AL and we just spend our Disney time at the parks or enjoying the restaurants. I do however enjoy having a nice balcony to sit on and have my morning coffee before starting my park day and winding down in the evenings.

The strange blinds in #3525 do need to be replaced IMO though. Don't think it would be too difficult.

I think we will be doing BWI or Swan/Dolphin from now on. I hate I paid the extra $$ this time.

I'm so sorry, @ AlabamaMinnie. We recently stayed at BC and I think the blinds are a problem in all the rooms. Ours were the same kind as yours. We had a courtyard view and the lights from the walkway were very bright. The light came through very early in the morning too. I had read a recent review about the new blinds and I ordered a sleep mask on Amazon. I don't think I would have slept without it!

Glad to know it's not just me. Maybe if there are enough complaints they will change them. Wish I had known about them before we went. Lesson learned I guess.

I think we had curtains in our room, but that was in 2014 - I think the rooms were redone after that.

Oh goodness, I would not like blinds. I love the dark out curtains, we always take a mid day break, a cool dark room is a great retreat.

If the pool is not a major draw for you, then there are numerous other Disney resorts that might work better for you than the BC. The pool is our reason for staying at the Beach and Yacht Club.

Try the Yacht Club side. The rooms are newly renovated and have blackout curtains.

We stayed BC CL last August and had a pool view room. It was CRAZY bright in there at night with the shades down. It didn't keep my kids awake, but the adults found it very annoying. I would not stay BC pool view again...

Have you made the stop to the front desk and let them know? Waiting until you get home shouldn't be an option. Go to the front desk, get the supervisor and let them know first hand. Calling Disney or emailing after you get home doesn't give you that one-on-one interaction. I'm assuming you're still there?

ALMinnie, can you take and attach a photo of the blinds? We're currently supposed to be at BC in September, but thinking maybe we should switch to BWI. Thanks, and I hope you get something settled soon for your current stay.

Home now I'm afraid. I just hated to go down there and ask to be changed again after walking all the way to the room, it's a LONG way from check-in. We also had a FP to get to so I really didn't have the extra time. Once we get our stuff to the room DH isn't moving. I just didn't find out until I got inside.

There was one great thing about the LOCATION/room, you could walk down 2 flights of stairs and out the exit and you were at a gate that went right to Epcot. That part we really DID like!

If you don't swim or at least enjoy just lounging by the pool, then I agree that Beach Club is the wrong resort for you. Stormalong Bay is the biggest part of Beach Club's appeal, for us.

As for the blinds, it does sound like bad design, but have you tried turning them so that they open upwards? Most blinds are set to open downwards, but can be rotated to open upwards. That cuts down on the amount of light that leaks into the room when the blinds are closed.

It doesn't matter how long of a walk it is, if the room is unacceptable to you, you do what you can to get what is. If you would've missed your FP for dealing with this, I'm sure in resolving the matter, the resort supervisor probably could've thrown in an anytime FP so you could catch up on the ride you missed (unless it was FoP or Navi or any other ride that doesn't get the anytime treatment).

The best thing to do at this point, since you're home, e-mail and/or call and let them know about your experience. It may or may not get anything done, but at least you'll have said something.

I know this thread is about the blinds....but even with curtains....when I travel I always have a handful of large paperclips in my purse or even a chip clip to hold that one piece of hotel curtain together that lets the darn sunshine in!:sunny::furious::furious::furious::furious:

(I'm a travel baseball mom..........hotel expert/ problem solver lol)

When I got home I looked on the touringplans site under Beach Club and there is a photo of the blinds. Wish I had seen it before. They are fabric but they still allow the light to shine on all sides.

I have stayed 4 times at BWI in a standard, GV and boardwalk and they all had balconies and blackout curtains.
