New Designer on Trading Spaces

I hated the green dining room too. And I felt really bad about the candlesticks. He took them from her basement and destroyed them. She didn't even have them in the room. The tent room was okay, but Doug's Prison of Love room was awful. I don't know where they are getting these designs.

I am glad to know I wasn't the only one that thought that dining room was hideous.

Doug's "prison" room was just insulting. It was ridiculous and obviously not anything people would keep. To destroy their bed to make it was just pushing the envelope. I congratulate the couple for laughing. They should laugh at Doug all the way to the unemployment line. Why would anyone ever hire him for a real life design job? It also drives home why Vern emphasizes that he never does "theme" rooms.

My mistake. I didn't see the whole thing, so the fact that he painted them made me assume they were in the room. That makes what happened that much worse.

I thought there was a rule that the designers couldn't change an item permanently if it wasn't in the room. Hildi's mentioned that a few times.

That is a big part of why DH and I like Vern the most. He does great rooms with good design and no themes. Most themed rooms go too far for my taste, with the exception of kid's rooms, which lend themselves to themes (like Vern's Planes, Trains and Automobiles room he did a while back - I loved that room!)

Another one of Vern's fans here! :) I've always enjoyed his rooms...I loved the trains, planes, and automobiles room too! One of my personal favorites of Vern's is the seafoam green kitchen for a couple in Long Island. Gorgeous! But seriously, I have yet to dislike any of Vern's rooms. Some I don't LOVE, but it's nothing to the "mistakes" Hildi and Doug make. :p

I just read this on the TLC website, it tells about the rules for the decorators using items from the home owners house:

A: If a homeowner does not want us to touch an item in their home, we strongly recommend that they remove that item from their home. If they cannot remove it (for instance, a hardwood floor) then they can protect that item on their release forms. The more items a homeowner protects, however, the less likely they are to appear on the show. Remember, the name of the game is that anything can happen!

I've been watching this show for a while but never have I seen anything this bad til last nights show. That was just plain awful. That new guy is not my favorite that's for sure. His theme left something to be desired. The prisoner of love theme wasn't that good either :( I did like the new designer second room. Maybe he'll get better over time.
