Why does everyone say the Beatles are this awesomely amazing band?

The Beatles are amazing. At one point, they were considered bigger then Jesus (or something like that, if the Simpsons is correct) I bet you could go up to anyone and ask them to name a Beatles song, and they'll be able to do it without fail... Their songs are so much better then most things released these days.
