New date set for Shuttle Launch

If it goes up on Tuesday, when will it return and will it return to FL or out west somewhere like it used to?

Here's the current Shuttle plan:

Mission: International Space Station Flight LF1
Shuttle: Discovery
Launch Pad: 39B
Launch: July 26, 2005
Landing: August 7, 2005
Duration: 12 days

Yes, they will land at Kennedy unless weather or other circumstances dictate an alternative to California. They much prefer to land in FL. Note that the landing viewings are difficult to see due to distance and the relatively small size of the shuttle. So plan on watching the launch if you can.

Anyone else a little skitish about watching those things? The chances of a tragedy are remote, but I don't know what I would do, if I am standing there with my DS7, and something goes wrong. I mean bad wrong.

We saw a launch about ten years (not sure exactly what year) ago and it was one of the most thrilling events I'd ever witnessed. I had no idea it would bring a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes as I watched it rise and then disappear into the atmosphere. I'd love to see it again!

To be honest, if you are in Orlando you probably wouldn't be able to tell too much. And if something does happen, then you can explain to your DS on his level, that manned space flight are ALWAYS risky, it is never completely safe, and these things do happen. The people who are in the shuttle are well aware of the risks but they chose to do the job anyway.
