Hospital Room Scorched By Smoker On Oxygen

DALLAS -- A Dallas hospital room erupted in flames when a patient wearing an oxygen mask tried to light a cigarette Thursday night.

A nurse at Methodist Dallas Medical Center rescued the man from his burning bed shortly after the blaze started. He suffered serious burns and was taken to the burn unit another Dallas hospital, but no one else was hurt, hospital officials said.

More than 100 other patients had to be evacuated because of the fire. The room in which the man was staying was destroyed, and medical equipment even melted, but sprinklers kept the fire from spreading.

Not 7 hours ago, a guy on my floor took off his oxygen and went into the bathroom and lit up. One of the other nurses was SO mad! Thought he was going to explode.

Some folks REALLY need a smoke, I guess! I hope the dummy isn't too badly burned. Burns are the worst.

My mom has been on oxygen for years for lung issues, she still smokes .

I wonder how long 'til he files a lawsuit against the hospital for not posting "Do NOT Attempt to Light Your Cigarette While Wearing an Oxygen Mask" signs in his individual room. I hope the hospital files suit against HIM for damaging their property.
