Provo Craft Introduces Cricut Imagine
The World’s First Automated Printing and Cutting Machine Featuring Inkjet Technology by HP Unveiled at Craft & Hobby Association Tradeshow

Press Release Source: Provo Craft On Tuesday July 27, 2010, 2:00 pm EDT
CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Provo Craft today unveiled Cricut® Imagine™, the world’s first tool that precisely prints and cuts with the touch of a button without requiring a computer or software. Cricut Imagine offers an easy-to-use, electronic print-and-cut system that adds a whole new level of texture, detail and dimension to a wide variety of creative projects. Cricut Imagine is the first in the lineup to feature printing as well as cutting, and features inkjet technology by HP. The new product is currently on display at the Craft & Hobby Association Summer Convention and Tradeshow in Chicago.

Cricut Imagine saves you time since you no longer have to use three different tools to get designs, print, and then cut projects. The new machine helps you add more personalization and creativity to projects with a new library of content including shapes, patterns and color. In addition, Cricut Imagine is easy to use and is built upon award-winning cutting and printing technology from Provo Craft and HP.

Cricut Imagine gives new life to all your original Cricut cartridges! Now you can add colors and patterns when pairing the original cartridges with NEW Cricut Imagine Colors and Patterns cartridges.

“Cricut Imagine is not only unique to the crafting industry, but to the world of technology. There is not another device that incorporates printing and cutting the way this machine does,” said Jim Thornton, CEO of Provo Craft. “The pairing of print and cut technology could only be done by the leaders in each category—HP and Provo Craft. We’re eager to see what our customers can now do with a simple sheet of white paper and Cricut Imagine print-and-cut technology.”

“HP is always expanding its personal publishing portfolio with new products and services that inspire and enable creativity among individuals and families,” said Kathy Tobin, Vice President and General Manager, Specialty Printing Systems Division, HP. “Cricut customers can benefit from high-quality Original HP ink to achieve unique and professional results.”

I am really not that impressed...I mean who really wants one more machine to have to buy ink for?! Not to mention if you are printing and then cutting it out there is no dimension to what you are creating and that is something I enjoy most. For once I can leave a PC product! :lmao:

Thanks for sharing the info with us.
I'll be passing on this one too. And can I just say ... way to go Provo Craft for putting the info about it on the cricut.com website that doesn't work worth a darn these days. :thumbsup2

It is interesting to read about it, however I think the price is outrageous.

Looks interesting...I just want to know how much PC is going to charge for ink! You know that will not come cheap!
I read somewhere that the inks will be $35 each. It sounds like they'll print 200 full pages before they run out. However, I've also read that the ink is only considered archival when printed on HP paper which is not available in 12x12 and is around $2 per sheet. I think the concept is great, but we're already to print and then have the cricut cut out our designs. I can't post links yet since I'm new here, but as soon as I can I'll come back to this thread and add the links to where I found this info.

The Q&A video I saw on the machine made it sound like you printed the image EXACTLY as it was on the cartridge. So, if it was a yellow peice of cake on a blue plate then you get a yellow piece of cake on a blue plate. If you want a red plate too bad. The images cannot be adjusted in color any way.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I can see how it would be handy for licensed characters (Mickey, Batman, etc.) but even I'm not a big enough Disney fanatic to buy a giant, expensive machine just so I can print my own Mickeys.

Is this what you mean? Clever Someday

This is OT, but from some of the posts at your link it sounds like I don't have to shell out money for the Provo Craft pen holders and pens. Are there other brands that work and where can I find info about them if so?

I honestly don't know. I have used the actual PC pens ONCE. Never tried any others. I've heard that you can use mini sharpies, but never tried it.

I found some short fat markers in the $1 section at Target that work well. :thumbsup2

There is some sort of pens that my mom bought @ Staples.. small little things.. and she put a pencil grip on it....and wrapped it twice w/tape...and uses it.. I'll asked for more detailed info tomorrow.. I saw what it does and it's neat.. she has some metallic pens...

She also purchased some cricut pens from amazon.com... let me see if I can find the link...http://www.amazon.com/Cri-Kits-Meta...3?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1281057243&sr=8-1

But like I said.. mom did another route the pens she bought @ staples were minis...
