I was just wondering if and where you go to register for the new 2010 promotion.

There is the new volunteer and get a free ticket promotion but the Birthday one is continuing with a slight modification as to what you get if you don't need the ticket.
So do you still need to register??? This is for Jan 2010

I can find info on the volunteer program but not the birthday one beyond this
Disney announced that it will continue its popular "What Will You Celebrate" promotion through 2010. Guests are encouraged to come to the parks to celebrate milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. One thing that will change about 2010's celebration is that Disney is no longer offering a gift card in place of a park ticket on your birthday. In 2009, guests had the option on their birthdays of choosing a one-day park ticket, a $75 Disney gift card, or a special fastpass. Next year, the gifts offered will be a one-day park ticket, the special fastpass, an EarHat figurine with exclusive trading pins, or the option to donate your park ticket to a participating charity.

If you are an Annual Passholder or a multi-day ticket holder, you may choose from one of three options instead of receiving the free 1-day, 1-park ticket. No cash refunds or credits will be provided. See the FAQs for full details.
If I have a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport , is there anything else that I can receive?

Guests who present a valid multi-day ticket or Annual Pass or Passport may choose from one of the following three options instead of receiving the free 1-day, 1-park ticket:

Disney's Special FASTPASS® cards for certain attractions for you and up to 5 additional members of your party.†
A collectible Ear Hat figurine with exclusive trading pins‡

Thanks:thumbsup2

In 2010, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts will continue to invite our Guests to come celebrate life's special moments at the Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida as we continue to ask What Will You Celebrate?.

In addition, next year, we'll be celebrating the good things people do in their communities as we launch our Give a Day. Get a Disney Day. promotion, which will replace the current Free on Your Birthday promotion.

Guests can "Give a Day" by volunteering at a designated location arranged with our partners at HandsOn Network. In exchange, they'll "Get a Disney Day" - a One-Day, One Park Complimentary Ticket to one of the Theme Parks of the Disneyland Resort or the Walt Disney World Resort.

This promotion doesn't begin until 1 January 2010. As such, specific volunteer opportunities have not been released as yet. Keep an eye on DisneyParks.com/celebrate for more information and to sign up for volunteer opportunities as soon as they are released.

Whoever originally posted the above information was misinformed. The Free on Your Birthday promotion will be coming to an end on 31 December 2009. It will not be available in 2010.

The above-mentioned alternate gifts are available for those who receive a One-Day, One-Park Ticket through our new Give a Day. Get a Disney Day. promotion and who already hold a valid Disneyland Resort Annual Passport, Walt Disney World Resort Annual Pass, Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort Multi-Day Park Ticket, or who otherwise have no need of the ticket itself.

Great...well that's unfair
That excludes all non US and Canadian guests.
Nice job Disney...

Before you get too angry at Disney, it may be due to US laws regarding giveaways and promotions. I do not know if it is, but I do know there are laws that companies must follow when running promotions.

Last year's birthday promotion was available to EVERYONE
YOMD was available to most countries (certainly Australia)
I understand difficulty in managing the volunteering one to those outside the US and Canada but in compensation there should be SOME kind of promotion for those outside the US and Canada.

They have been spreading the What will you celebrate promotion to the whole world and while the concept will remain....removal of the actual promotion won't be a good look. Especially to those who DO volunteer work in their own countries.

As I say I understand not being able to extend the actual volunteer program outside the US and Canada...there should be something else available to those outside those countries.

I realize this probably won't help, but I do believe that non-U.S. citizens can take advantage of this promotion as long as you do the volunteer work in the U.S. Perhaps if you're here long enough, you can do a day of volunteering (which I think is a GREAT way to spend a holiday - and get to meet many amazing people), and then be able to do Disney later in the trip. I dunno, something to consider... :thumbsup2

Just curious... Does this work in reverse? Like if I want to visit Paris, Tokyo or Hong Kong? Do I get a free ticket? if I do volunteer work? Do Europeans and the like only get to do volunteer work in their respective countries? To recieve tickets to their local parks? Like I said just curious if this is a global Disney promotion or purely American?

It is a purely US promotion for the US parks.

Paris, Tokyo and the US parks are run independently and have independent promotions.
you can actually buy shares in the Disney Paris (which gives you very nice discounts ;) )

but I have to say that I think that Disney, or any other business, for that matter, is entitled to give discounts, freebies, goodies, or not give them, to whomsoever they choose.
For a recent visit, we bought the 14 day vacation passes that are sold in Australia and New Zealand which cost only a few dollars more than the 5 day parkhoppers. I thought these were a pretty good "discount."
I don't mean to sound like a grump, but of us who travel, can be thankful that we can afford to do so and I hope we are not going to quibble over whether we should qualify for what is, after all, worth just a fraction of the cost of our holidays.

My first cranky reaction was on two levels
1-the misinformation I received in the first place which caused a significant disappointment (not the fault of Disney but irritating nonetheless)
2-the fact that this then meant there was NO promotion at all to those outside the US and Canada.

The comparison to the 14 day pass is not valid (to me) on a couple of levels.
1 - if you know how ANYONE can get that pass, just like the promotions for UK residents. It isn't that hard.
2 - The REASON for the 14 day ticket is because it costs over $1000 for us to get to the country in the first place (plus the return ticket) and it is an incentive for us to come and spend our money there!!! The more days we can spend in the park the more money we are likely to spend in the park

Look...this isn't going to spoil my holiday in any way shape or form.
BUT...it is a bad look for Disney. And given the 09 promotion is being missed by 6 days leaves an extra bad taste in the mouth for me personally.

..seems to me that Canadians have a way to do this..it was on an earlier thread.
Why do people always slam something if THEY can't get it..Nothing can be for everyone. I'd love the Socal or Florida discounts, I'd love the CM deals, I bet Canada has alot of cool things US citizens can't qualify for, D23 hasn't managed to schedule something in New Mexico..It's really a mememe additude anymore. Kinda sad.

PS. As far as I can tell there is no opportunity for me to volunteer to get a free day anywhere near me..but it is still a good campaign

This came off the Disney site:

You must sign up through this site to volunteer and complete your service at an eligible volunteer opportunity in the fifty US states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico or Canada to receive a ticket.

So, yes, it seems Canada is included.

1-I'm not sure what your point is re Canadians.
My point was that both USA AND Canadians can do it. Perhaps you could read what you quote first

2-As for mememe....well guess what...if you WANT to and are DEDICATED enough to help that you could. Unlike me.
I would LOVE to work for Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans.
It is a fantastic promotional idea. But given it is too much of a logistical nightmare to extend it beyond the US and Canada there should be a promotion for others as well.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, the new promotion also isn't for anyone 3-5 years old (no matter what country they're from). I'm not mad about this but I thought it was strange excluding some of the kids especially since their tickets cost the same as the 6-9 year olds. But I can understand why they did it since it would be hard for most kids that age to do a day of volunteering. Still strange though.

I live in Australia and I am not fussed that I can't be involved. I think this is a great idea!!:thumbsup2

Let me ask a question, does every business in Australia offer their promotions to everyone in the world?

Seems to me it would be a logistical nightmare for a company to have to include everyone in the world in every contest or promotion they put out.

I agree, I am kind of annoyed with the OP here. You sound like you believe Disney owes you something. Or that you are entitled so something just because it is offered to others. That is laughable. And silly. You should be thankful you have a special place like Disney to visit in the first place. They are encouraging people to get out and help others in need. This should be praised. Hopefully young people will pick up a good habit in all of this, help others!

I have said about 10 times I think this is a
BRILLIANT AND WONDERFUL promotion

but alas you folks just LOVE to latch onto one PERCEIVED rather than actual comment and beat a person to death with it.

I in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM have said that I should be entitled to anything....I have merely said that it is a shame they can't extend the promotion beyond the North American shores.

MrsJackSparrow4Life - you said EXACTLY what I said in what you quoted!!!
Why don't you people READ what you quote????

You said that Disney SHOULD have something available to those outside the U.S. Thus implying that people from other countries SHOULD be entitled to a promotion.
