Does anyone know what they are building along the monorail?
Looks to be a resort...

Where along the monorail? Was it near the Contemporary Resort? I know that one of the wings had been demolished, could they have started building on that site?

come visit on the DVC board....

rumor has it this will CRV - a DVC resort. It could also be CR suites. Or a combination of both.

Until Disney announced it and even better sends our a point chart - no guaranteeds.

the longer Disney says nothing - the better a DVC looks. If it was CR suites I think Disney would have announced it by now. but some planners say no - that lots of conventions are planned at the last minute. It will be several years before that building is complete.

if you want to see what it will look like - look at my signature.

they were initially believed to be DVC villas, but more recently, it's come into light that they may in fact be suites (or a combination as mentioned above). word is that it's signage that mentions suites. also as mentioned above, no actual confirmation from disney.

It is going to be a parking garage so all the people that head to MK have some place to park over at the CR so they don't have to ride the tram to TTC LOL.

Did you happen to notice if there was foundation or any kind of structure going up already?

Every Cast Member I asked about this said it would be a DVC building and this was way before the AKV was even going to be thought of.

Thanks for the replies.
We have a friend who recently visited WDW who said there was construction along the monorail. We were just curious if any body else knew about it.
We will be going in December to see it for ourselves.

As of last week there was no sign of a foundation. They put in some pilings and some drainage, but other than that its a big, flat dirt area.

And reports are that the construction signs that mentioned "Contemporary Suites" had that part painted over...so its all just a guest.

CMs have been repeating the same rumors we've all been hearing, although they do tend to state them as fact. But then again, Disney itself has stated many things as a fact that never came to be...Africa Pavillion in the World Showcase (on the EPCOT Center opening special), the Asian and Venetian resorts, etc.

Fact is plans change. What may originally have been planned as DVC at the Contemporary could be in flux as they decide what it is they really need.

they will be an annoucement in either Oct or Dec. year end. Oct is the financially year end, dec is the year end.

that much is certain.

if they will announce CRV or one in DL or even Hawaii - is still to be decided.

they can't announce a timeshare in Florida until at least some of the work is done.

also remember the suites at CR have not gone through a complete rehab - like the rooms.

another good sign it will be a dvc resort!:dance3: :yay:

still there is always the chance that it won't.

I think it depends upon how much trouble the AKL is - and it is a big problem.

in late may - disney had just send out request for bids on the cement and steel to be used in constructing this building. now I don't know how long it takes to get the bids back and those type of things.

i called a few times yesterday to try to compare room rates. I found the Disney staff very "unhelpful" in making suggestions. We are a party of four / need two rooms. Can come anytime in Aug. Sept. I'm shopping for a good deal ? Is that so difficult ?? Maybe it's better to work with a travel agent.

And the relevance to the thread at hand is??? :confused3

Methinks you meant to post a new thread.

Normally I would agree with you about that. However considering the fact that the North Garden Wing was torn down and the rumours of DVC being built at the Contemporary had started 1 or 2 years before, I think that was the most clear sign it's going to be DVC.

I don't see how that matters. Yes, the North Wing was torn down - that means they certainly wanted to build SOMETHING there instead of renovate the existing structure - it's prime real estate. But if Disney decided that they could fill that something to capacity year round as CRO suites or business accommodations instead of turning it over to DVC/DVD, they may have changed their mind.

And then again, they may decide NOT to build anything yet. Nothing has actually been built yet, and as of last week I didn't see any sign that they were actually ready to begin formal construction - it was all prep work. Disney never finished Pop Century, despite constructing two shells and the reception building, because the financial situation changed, minds changed, etc.

All I'm saying is things can be in flux.

I'm about 80% sure all or at least a major fraction of what is built will be DVC, and I've got money waiting.
